|
|
According to RCR Wireless News:
| Quote: | WASHINGTON—T-Mobile USA Inc. and Verizon Wireless said they did not participate in a data-mining operation run by the National Security Agency that collects phone records and looks for trends that would indicate terrorist activities.
The NSA phone-records operation, first reported by USA Today Thursday, comes on the heels of revelations that telecommunications customer call records are being sold over the Internet. Telcos, especially mobile-phone carriers, spent the winter assuring the public, federal regulators and Capitol Hill that they do protect customer call records and that those who pretext—pretending to be a customer to obtain call records—should be the targets of any reforms.
T-Mobile is not a participant in any NSA program for warrantless surveillance and acquisition of call records, and T-Mobile has not provided any such access to communications or customer records,” said Peter Dobrow, T-Mobile USA spokesman.
Cingular Wireless L.L.C. and Sprint Nextel Corp. both declined comment but stressed their commitment to customer privacy.
Cingular is owned by AT&T Inc. and BellSouth Corp. Both of these companies were mentioned by USA Today as participants in the program. The only Bell company to not participate is Qwest Communications International Inc. Qwest does not have its own wireless licenses but resells wireless service using Sprint Nextel CDMA network in Qwest’s 14-state territory.
Capitol Hill was not pleased about the report of the NSA program. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) said he plans to hold a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which he chairs, with the telephone companies as the star witnesses. |

My comments:
1. This topic appears to have virtually nothing of practical consequence to do with evdo or G3 comms in general.
2. It is odd that a political commentary article has been posted here by the site admin to invite comments in a non-political forum.
3. I think we have a lot more relevant things to see discussed here on your site which does a superb job of dealing with 3G issues and topics. I further think that there are many dozens of other forums that more appropriately and effectively deal with political and current event topics (including telecomm topics) and it would be a shame to see your site ruined by having its dedicated content drown out by this sort of non relevant subject matter creeping in.
I'm not here to read about or discuss politics, current events (other than 3G or evdo specific ones), nor general telecomm issues. I seriously doubt if any others are either.
Conclusion: Lock or remove this thread ASAP before it ruins your site. _________________ Did you ever stop to think .... and then forgot to start again? |

Wow... I thought it was quite relevant actually. I'll certainly tailor my purchases to companies that don't illegally violate my privacy.
Your post (boater) was the one that seemed angry and offensive. I doubt anyone would have posted a response to this thread at all if you hadn't spewed your vitriol. |

Well put . It is relevant since we buy our EVDO services from Cellular providers. Michaels site anyways , he can do as he pleases . I don't think it will destroy the site. |

The post was in the Phone/PDA area of EVDOforums.com, so it could be relative for those using an EVDO Phone.
It is not a polical commentary, but mostly as I was scanning for "What was new", this caught my eye - I think it is very interesting and wanted to share with others.
The comments I was looking for, was NOT "what the NSA was doing", but rather what some of the carriers were doing. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I"m neither angry nor trying to be offensive. I'm not interested in this site for the sort of thing a discussion of the article will undoubtedly lead to from the various factions of the issues.
As to your enthusiasm for the info so you can "tailor my purchases to companies that don't illegally violate my privacy" , I'll watch for you to start posting from a T-mobil provider account so I can actually believe it hehe.
Anyhow, hopefully I'm wrong and it won't attract the riff raff and ruin the site as I've seen happen to so many other sites that went off topic. We shall see. _________________ Did you ever stop to think .... and then forgot to start again? |

Actually, I have a T-Mobile MDA -- pretty slick... even can use it for data via Bluetooth... but to be honest, my Sprint card is a lot faster!!
Looking forward to more wireless broadband options... the more competition, the better all the services will grow to be... Unfortunately, T-Mobile is still a bit behind in this regards. |

| I welcome any strategy that is used to fight terrorism. That's ashame that T-MO and Verizon don't want to help with that. Now, crooks will know that those are the carriers to sign up with! |

I posted my response to the same topic on a different forum. However, a very ignorant misonformed person (he essentially called me a nazi), put me down. The rest of the members, put in their two cents and disagree with me, but they did it in an objective educated sense. I do hope that we dont get to name calling and other aspects. I would rather not post my response for fear of being called a nazi again! _________________
