| Quote: | | With the strong demand for 1xEV-DO services, operators have seen data usage and revenues grow rapidly. In the United States, Verizon Wireless' data revenues in the 1st quarter more than doubled year-over-year, contributing $872 million or 11.5% of all service revenues, up from 6.3 percent the previous year. Data ARPU reached $5.58 for the quarter, up 79% from one year ago; data customers totaled 26.1 million, a 47 % increase over one year ago. Sprint Nextel's data revenue topped $800 million in 1st quarter 2006, with data ARPU growing 21%, accounting for 11% of total ARPU. |

Q2 2006 Wireless Data Revenue, ARPU,
Sprint: $850M, $7.25 ARPU ($9+ CDMA only)
Verizon: $1.1B, $6.40 ARPU
Not sure if they report apples/apples... IE, do they both include song download revenue, text messages, etc.
Sprint went from 700K to 1.2M PowerVision subscribers from Q1-Q2. Verizon doesn't say how many actual subscribers but says 10M broadband devices are out there, but not nearly as many subscribe to VCast. |

For comparison, here is Q4/2005.
http://seekingalpha.com/article/7037
http://wireless.seekingalpha.com/article/6304
Q4/2005
Sprint $660m, 13.5m 1xRTT/EVDO subscribers, 250K EVDO/PowerVision subscribers
Verizon $731m, no subscriber info found
Verizon's big jump is partly due to more subscriber adds but they also charge alot more for data on PDA phones. Verizon is $45/month for data on a Treo or MotoQ while Sprint is only $15/month on PDA phones.
Looks like Sprint is adding 500K EVDO users per quarter, but still <10% of total 1xRTT users. |
