I noticed this as well, my guess is some smaller regional carriers, perhaps US Cellular. What would really be great is a Sprint Verizon deal, but I'm sure thats not in the near future as data is where the market is now and neither want to share.
On a side note, I've noticed that Alltel 1xRTT seems quite a bit slower when I roam on my Sprint card as well as when I roam on my Verizon card then each of their respective native networks 1xRTT service, any one else notice this?

| I've used AllTel several times on my Sprint card and haven't noticed any decline in speeds personally. Perhaps it is a regional/tower thing. The areas I used it have been Minnesota and South Dakota. |

I noticed it in Boyne Falls, MI and between Sturgis and Kalamazoo, MI.
The Verizon card roams on Alltel in all of these locations except K-zoo, the Sprint roams only in Boyne Falls and in between (on back-road state highways) Sturgis and K-zoo. When I force the Sprint to roam its dog slow compared to their native service and they both are on the same tower.
Only thing I can think of is that these are all ex-CenturyTel areas, I'm not sure if it would have anything to do with it or not.

Am in an Alltel EVDO area N of Tampa with Sprint S720 card There is clearly an EVDO signal when forcing roam on Alltel but it does not connect. If I force to 1xRTT roaming, it does connect fine. So it looks like DO roaming is not enabled yet. Based on Alltel announcements, maybe by January both carriers will be roaming DO.
BTW, I'm way north of Tampa, a good 60 miles in Homosassa Springs and get strong Sprint EVDO. Brooksville also has good DO coverage.
Also check this out. Hack for Alltel users to use Sprint EVDO now...

Am waiting at Tampa airport. Get solid Alltel EVDO and 1xRTT signal with Sprint S720 card. Not able to force connect roaming to either Altell EVDO or 1xRTT. I was able to roam 1xRTT on Alltel in most parts well north of Tampa. Makes me wonder if Sprint does not intentionally roam to Alltel if there is strong Sprint signal even though Alltel is also available.
When I was roaming to Alltel yesterday, I was not able to use Juniper VPN to work unless switching back to Sprint network. Anyone try VPN while roaming yet?
BTW, no RevA at Tampa airport either yet but getting close to 1Mbps with Rev0. |

hi i'm new here.
I am in the Tampa area and I hope that Sprint lets Alltel roam on EVDO. When I go down to West Palm or Orlando I get stuck on 1x which is SUPER SLOW. We are planning a trip to knoxville next week and I hope that I get EVDO up there |

| Just as an FYI there is a new PRL out today for Sprint EVDO phones - 20225 - and they can now roam on Alltel's EVDO network. I would assume that a new PRL would be coming out soon (now?) for the data cards as well. - sheureka |

Someone posted this on sprintusers.com...

Informational Alert
Summary:
Sprint is launching an extended wireless domestic data network. This expanded network will allow customers to use Sprint’s CDMA network in a wider area. This will be included in most customers’ Vision plans. Casual usage rates may apply.
Details:
Sprint Nextel has developed relationships with Verizon Wireless, Alltel, and US Cellular to expand its domestic data roaming capabilities for its customers. We have significantly expanded our footprint of service for data products at 1X speeds. Best of all, this expanded network is available at no additional cost to the customer. |
1xRTT roaming on Verizon and US Cellular as well?? I couldn't find original source.
For whatever reason, Sprint releases a PRL to phones well before laptop cards. As soon as someone posts the PRL file, it can be manually installed on laptop cards. I have instructions in another thread for manual PRL updates. Otherwise, it will probably take a new Connection Manager release to update the PRL.
Watch this page for latest PRL file..

| This would explain the huge roaming footprint on the static EVDO maps that came out a week or two ago. |

Alltel came out with a new EVDO map. Sprint users can now EVDO roam in any of the dark blue areas for EVDO and light blue for 1xRTT. Verizon users can only roam 1xRTT on Alltel.
Alltel has a LOT of unique rural/small town EVDO coverage that Sprint does not have... like Kansas, Nebraska, W Texas, E Ohio. The combined coverage between Sprint/Alltel roaming is huge in some states, particuarly in Midwest and South.
I was able to roam on Alltel EVDO with a Sprint card last month in Tampa area.
