| I have created a website that speaks solely about this sort of thing. It is still in the very beginning stages. Check out http://forum.maximumreception.com As I said, there is practically nobody there, but once we get the word out, it will be THE palce to talk about those sorts of things! Check it out! Michael, if you wish to remove this post, I understand. |

iDEN, good for instant "walkie-talkie" communications. Terrible for just about anything else. |
I would hope Sprint closes down Nextel just so we can get rid of those obnoxious squaking phones and the idiots who sit in the coffee shop with the speakers on top volume. Somehow their addiction to these noises makes them both feel import and that it is acceptable.

Hate to tell you Nextel is not going away. Push to talk on the other frequencies is mediocre at best . Too many companies love the push to talk . |

The Alltel data roaming is to officially begin July 1 but it already may be working in many areas. If you are in an Alltel roaming area, give it a shot.

Alltel users also may be able to roam on Sprint EVDO by now in some areas. |

I have heard there is an EVDO roaming agreement in place between Alltell and Verizon but nothing has been announced yet |

| I live ina small town in North Carolina, where alltel provided excellent covergae for EVDO. I went to local store and double checked with them. Also updated my PRL to 20222. I still can not get roaming data. I guess I will have to wait untill July 1st. When I try to connect it gives me error messege saying " Roaming Data Prohoboted". Also is there a way to find out, when my phone goes into roaming which carreer its picks up? It just shows R. |

To find out who you are roaming on....
- Dial ##DEBUG#
- Look for the SID
- Compare SID to list below

I tried that, but the stange thing is it shows Charlotte,NC for my sprint SID and I am in Wilson, NC, which is much closewr to Raleigh,NC. Charlotte is about 3 hours drive from me.
For roamingis shows Alltel, Rocky mount,NC, which is about 25 miles away from me.
When I go to Dialing Rules, it shows 425 as my area code where as my area code is 252.
Any ides why? |

| I just noticed that list hasn't been updated since 2002. I did a google to search for another list but found a message that said the FCC hasn't been tracking roaming lists since 2003. It is now privately maintained and there is a charge to see it. So the list above is the last 'free' listing but probably can still give you an idea of whose network you are on. |

Thanks xenophone, for anwerinf all my questions.
I have PPC 6700 and I get one bar for Sprint Service. In wilson,NC, sprint has not started providig EVDO as yet.
Now when the Roaming agreemnet with Alltel becomes effective, will I still get connected to Sprint 1XRTT or to Alltel EVDO?
Is there a way to force it to connect to EVDO and not 1xRTT if EVDO signal from roaming is available? |

I'd suspect it would use Sprint's 1xRTT first if not in roam mode. But you might be able to force EVDO. This is possible on some EVDO phones.
Try dialing ##EVDO#
Or check if there is an option to force roaming in the phone settings.
This forum has hundreds of 6700 users that could probably help....
Lookout for Alltel . They have a EVDO agreement in place with Verizon as well , just not announced yet.
Humourous idea, sign up with Alltell and roam on Verizon. Can Verizon now disconnect you if you exceed 10 G per month? |
