Thanks to MaximumSignal for all the cool gear. And for upgrading a product when the one I ordered was out of stock!!

Here's my current setup. MaxSig's trucker antenna mounted on top of my ranch house, cable run to my dual-band 819 amplifier. Cable out plugged into my KPC650 white input jack.

For signal testing purposes, I plugged my KPC650 into my laptop (since you can't get the signal strength from the KR1). I went from 1-bar, -95dBm 1xRTT coverage to 4-bar, -65dBm 1xRTT coverage. And I'm also getting 1-bar, -100dBm EVDO coverage!

Do the signal strength readings really work like that? "High" signal strength for 1xRTT and the potential for lower signal strength EVDO coverage?

If that premise is correct, I'm concerned about the KPC650 living inside my KR1. Will I run into problems if the signal level drops so far that it kicks from EVDO to 1xRTT? Are the Kyocera products smart enough to "auto-negotiate"? Or is my wife gonna land me on the couch for her internet connectivity going up/down at the whim of the wind, phase of the moon, etc?

Jeff,

The KR1 doesn't handle this, the KPC650 automatically connects to EVDO or 1xRTT - completely transparent to the KR1 (or any other router).

Right. I'm probably having a hard time finding the right words/terminology for this stuff.

With the KPC650 in my laptop ....
1) If my signal strength goes away for whatever reason, I have to use the VZ software to reconnect. Is the KPC650 or KR1 smart enough to try to reconnect automatically?

2) Sometimes it seems that if I'm in an EVDO area and I move into a 1xRTT area, the signal will get dropped. Again, this requires me to use the VZ software to reconnect. Is the KPC650 or KR1 smart enough to try to auto-reconnect?
