I have an Ipaq hx2410 which I tether over a bluetooth
connection on my LG-325 phone. (SprintPCS)

The LG-325 has the bluetooth crippled in a way so that
the connection speeds to the internet when tethered
is between 14 and 20 (around 18 is normal) kbps.

Even when I do accept the fact that what
I want to download might take 10 minutes over the slow
connection, it times out way before the download ever finishes.

So, I cannot access the internet very fast nor cannot transmit
large sums of data before it times out.

Before I went to the Ipaq and the LG-325, I had a Samsung i-500
Palm smartphone. I think I was tramsitting more data daily with
that then I am tethering with the Ipaq.

So, do I offer to pay Sprint the extra $15.00 to tether the 1xrr connection????

I only use the phone itself for text messages which I think
is not even part of the unlimited data plan as far as KB usage goes.
(and for calls as well).

That is odd. Many people do DUN (dial up netoworking) over the Bluetooth on an array of Sprint phones. Pay the $40. which gives you the unlimited tethering option and includes the data. Text messages ARE NOT DATA. unless you have an older grandfathered Vision plan, otherwise you are paying $.10/message sent and recieved. $15 /month gives you unlimited texting. I would also highly suggest picking up a data card from Sprint for $59.99/month unlimited data usage. If not, the $40/tethering option would work, and try setting up a DUN with your bluetooth. Good luck!

My text messages are grandfathered in on the old $10 Unlimted
Vision plan.

If I knew I could get a cellphone from Sprint without the bluetooth
being crippled..

But I don't need EVDO...I would want 1xrtt or whatever it is called....
I have heard that tethering with the 1xrtt speed was only an extra
$15.00 per month.

Does anyone know if the new LX-350 has crippled bluetooth DUN? I
heard that phone only supports 1xrtt.

It is true that Sprint's 1xRTT unlimited PAM will continue to be $15/month. For EVDO, it is $40/month unlimited PAM so if 1xRTT is all you need, this is the way to go.

Don't know about the LG, but 'crippled' is not the right term if it actually works. If it is slow, it could be your configuration or the phone is just too slow to handle both ends of traffic. The phone would need some decent CPU power to handle 1xRTT traffic as well as BT networking.

I have a Sprint Treo 650 (1xRTT phone) that I do bluetooth PAM on and can often get about 100Kbps (though I normally use an S620 laptop card). With the Treo 700p (EVDO) about to come out, the 650 should really drop in price. It's a great phone as well as PDA if 1xRTT is good enough for you.

Thanx.

The PM-325 that I have has been noted on several forums
as having "crippled" bluetooth.

The DUN speed has been set to a max of 30kbps officially
but I have never gotten speeds that high....on the wap
speed test I get a pretty consistant 18kbps.

This phone was released back when Sprint had no other
bluetooth DUN enabled phones.

Not only that but according to several sources, the UDP part
of the DUN is faulty which causes the connection to time
out when transfering large amounts of data.

I would still like to hear from anyone who knows if the
LG Lx-350 has good speeds on it's bluetooth DUN.
