|
|
I just received my KR1 and I plugged my KPC650 into it. I am seeing relatively frequent instances of the KR1 status light turning red, and as best I can tell, the only solution is to reboot the KR1. In one instance, I couldn't get a network connection to the KR1 and I had to yank the plug.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

I'm beginning to suspect the red lights are the result of losing signal. It appears the KR1 doesn't deal gracefully with this? I'll have to play with its location some more to see if this is the cause.

A red LED means it cannot connect EVDO or 1xRTT, so it is likely a signal problem. If not that, your card isn't registered/activated, or something similar.
Internally it launches a script that runs PPP to dial to #777 and logs in with the info you provide - if ppp can't connect, I think it retries, and keeps retrying but after a few times the red light comes on and until it does connect with the WAN coming on, it will stay Red.
It is possible that the card and/or script causes something which will prevent any connection without a reboot, but more likely it is just lack of signal. |

Thanks for the info, tz1.
Ordered the omni antenna (and amplifier). Can't wait for it to get here
So far, I'm enjoying more than a 5x improvement over what I was able to get before. 24k modem -> 120k 1xRTT. Hoping to reach EVDO, but I'm remaining skeptical.

Hello Jeff,
I see you got your stuff from us.
If you want to send me a private email with your complete address (address, city, state, zip), I can pull up a map on the Verizon Street Level Coverage Map and we can see how far away EVDO signal is away from you.
Don't post here, send me a private message. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Mark,
What EVDO card are you using?
When plugged directly into the Toshiba, what type of signal strength do you get? I believe that my problem was directly related to signal strength. Since getting an external antenna as well as a signal amplifier, my problems have gone away. The combination of items yielded a 30db gain!
