KR1 EVDO Signal Strength

I am working from memory here (can't seem to find the pics), but...

I remember seeing some internal photos of the KR1 that showed the internal wireless card has 2 antenna ports. IIRC, the primary port (rcv and xmit) goes to an internal patch antenna, and the secondary port (rcv only) is brought out to the back panel antenna jack.

If this is correct, it would be very interesting to try swapping those two cables at the wireless card so that the ext jack is on the primary port. This should help significantly when using an external antenna.

If I have an external antenna that will attach to this, I will try it later.

Yes, the RP-SMA connector on the KR1 connects internally to the AUX connection on the Wi-Fi card. There is also an internal on-board antenna which connects to MAIN. Might be something to experiment with. *wink*

Wi-Fi in mobile situations can be impacted by neighboring frequencies. Its just 2.4GHz, and there are plenty of other things besides Wi-Fi that use that these days. You may want to experiment with manual 802.11 channel configuration as well as 'G mode' vs 'Mix Mode' (only if you have G-only hosts). Wish there was a b-only mode... b works for me. ;]

Keep an eye on your logs for Wi-Fi errors as well.

Booster-Antenna.com sells a nice 5.5dBi rubber ducky with RP-SMA.

Ok... now that I've helped derail the thread... let's get back to those with EVDO/1xRTT signal strength issues that appear to impact the KR1.
