I am tring to extend my wireless LAN using my Airport and WDS. Is WDS something the KR1 needs to support, or does the airport just look like another wireless client to the KR1? Has anyone tried this, I cannot get it to work.

WDS is not supported by the KR1. I use multiple Asus WL-500g routers in our Church in WDS configuration. The routers, which are Linux based, are actually cheaper than many WDS capable access points -- you can find them for about $75 each. The WL-500g also provides an FTP server outside of your firewall -- just add a USB disk or flash drive.

Another option (depending on how far you need to extend) is to add an amplifier and/or high-gain antenna. The Hawking HSB2 - Hi-Gain WiFi Signal Booster works well -- it boosts the normal 70 mW input from the WiFi of your router to 100, 250, or 500 mW (user selectable switch).

I use an Airport Express to connect a printer to a KR1 so that the users of the KR1 network can share a printer.

The Airport Express just joins the KR1's wireless network. I haven't tried to extend the network with Airport, however.
