after a bit of wrestling, seems to work, tho not well tested at this time. i used a mixture of info on kenkinder.com, ka9q.net/5220.html, and evdo-coverage.blogspot.com(ADMIN: Dishonest EVDO Vendor to get it all working - none of these sites had setups that worked outta the box (for me, YMMV), altho they were very helpful.
i used "pppd call xxx" and scripts in etc/ppp/peers rather than using yast, but that may work as well.
will update this post after patching drivers for speed. |

pen8wnen:
Please post your scripts. I am still having trouble getting getting evdo to run under linux. Just as I think I am getting there I get no connection. It may be because of my weak 1x coverage (I will have to wait for 3g). I am in the process of ordering an outside antenna so before I try it again.
thanks,
john. _________________ Retired Computer Engineer

john-
<disclaimer>
depending on what pkgs you have installed, this may or may not work for you. you didn't specify, but i'm assuming you're using suse10 as i did, but it should work on something else as well. </disclaimer>
having writ that, procedure follows:
scripts: | Code: |
> cat /etc/ppp/peers/1xevdo
-detach
ttyUSB0
115200
debug
noauth
defaultroute
usepeerdns
user 703xxxxxxx@vzw3g.com //put in your own evdo card phone #
show-password
crtscts
lock
lcp-echo-failure 4
lcp-echo-interval 65535
connect '/usr/sbin/chat -v -t5 -f /etc/ppp/peers/1xevdo_chat'
> cat /etc/ppp/peers/1xevdo_chat
'' 'AT'
'OK' 'ATTEV1&F&D2&C1&C2S0=0'
'OK' 'ATS7=60'
'OK' 'AT+CSQ;D#777'
TIMEOUT 70
'CONNECT-AT+CSQ;D#777-CONNECT'
|
the chat script needs some abort cmds and some cleanup, but this works
append the following to /etc/ppp/pap-secrets:
xxxxxxxxxx@vzw3g.com * vzw
again, use your own phone # in place of the xs.
procedure:
open a shell, su to root
| Code: | su -
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x106c product=0x3701
pppd call 1xevdo |
you should have two devices after the original modprobe, /dev/ttyUSB0 and 1. from time to time i had to change to other devices as i tested due to addl rmmod, modprobe, etc, but 0 should work if nothing else has been tampered with.
oh, one other thing - i haven't patched usbserial yet. neither have i measured my speed yet. perhaps i'll post results after having done so.
-----------------------------
ps: note to admin - easy there. blogspot.com isn't an evdo vendor, it's just a blog. and (IMHO) it's a little early to impeach their veracity. now, evdo-coverage,com MAY or MAY NOT be, i don't really know. but that's just my opinion, i might be wrong.
cheers |

| Thanks - these instructions worked first time out of the box for the Verizon V620 card. It was a lot simpler to follow than trying to activate a Broadcom 4318 MiniPCI card. And it worked! |

Hi all,
I've followed the instructions to the letter and am getting the following when invoking 'pppd call 1xevdo':
pppd: In file /etc/ppp/peers/1xevdo: unrecognized option 'ttyUSB0'
Any ideas on this will be greatly appreciated! |
