Hi
I lurked the board for awhile and managed to generate a few
questions to go with a few answers that I found.
I'd be interested in hearing via email from any vendors that
can help me out as well.
I'll try and explain what I already have and what I think I
would like, and any feedback and/or advice as far as devices,
vendors and service providers would be greatly appreciated.
Currently I have Verizon cell phone service, with a two year
contract for voice and 1xRTT that has been completed and not
extended. For some stupid reason I thought that I purchased
an unlimited data plan but this is evidently not the case.
That's one of the reasons I'm not particularly pleased with Verizon.
I have an LG4400 that I use both for voice and tethered to my G4 TI
Powerbook for Internet use. At some point I'll probably be upgrading
the Powerbook so I want to make sure I'll not be getting something now
that will be immediately obsolete.
I am considering EVDO for the future, but I am disturbed by
what I have read regarding the Verizon terms of service, so
I am fairly sure that I would like to switch my cell phone
service to Sprint in preparation for my future EVDO
purchase. I'm willing to stay with Verizon as well, but do
not wish to be legally restricted in my choices of Internet
usage. I'd like to have both phone and future EVDO from the
same provider so I can take advantage of any discounts, and
I am currently not bound to any provider with a contract.
I'm willing to sign up for another year at a time, two if
absolutely necessary or if that will help get a discount on
the handset itself.
So, what I would like to wind up with is the cheapest
available cell plan that includes unlimited inbound calling
and Internet access. If possible, I'd also like to not need
to buy another handset, but I will if necessary. I am
currently on a limited income so I am mainly interested in a
robust quality handset with minimal features without any
video or photo capability (work requirement ) that is
capable of tethered Internet access for my Powerbook. I need
a handset that is compatible with iSync (preferably) or
bitpim or whatever that will allow me to manage the handset
on my Powerbook with the latest OS X 10.4.5 installed. I
also would like to switch my existing number if I change
providers, but that should be the easy part. If the cable
that I use with the LG44oo won't do, then I will need to get
that too. Bluetooth would be nice too, but is not a
deal-killer if it isn't there.
I am in zip code 89109 for billing purpose and am ready to
upgrade my service soon. I need a general idea of the costs
involved before I can set an exact time that I will be
changing service, but I hope that it will be within the next
month or so, with an EVDO add on later this year.
thanks for your time and help.

| Check out this website...It might not help you decide on a Service Provider, but it should make choosing a phone easier (and maybe thereby helping you select the best Provider). Be sure to read the reviews of the phone you are considering before you comit. |

go sprint with a samsung a920.
the phoneasmodem plan is $40.
sign up at a local store and then call customer retention after 10 days, asking for a cheaper plan with less minues etc. |

That's probably what I'm gonna wind up with.
I was hoping to find something like the A920 without a camera because
camera phones are a no-no at some of the places I regularly visit, but I
probably can work around it.
Are there any EV-DO phones without a camera and the other frou-frou?
I already have a camera and a mp3 player and something to watch the
news on. I just need a robust and reliable phone that I can occasionally
use as a modem for my Powerbook
