I have been having a hell of a time with this laptop.
I get bluescreens in Windows XP with USB driver errors, but it does not happen all the time. Usually, it happens when I am using the laptop a lot (doing a lot of web browsing or using putty (ssh)) with the verizon card. When I am not using the Verizon card (i.e. plugged into a wired network) it never crashes.
I did the BIOS update (version F.0D) from this page -
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/locate/64_6170.html
- but it didn't help.
I am going to do a clean reinstall of the OS with no software except the VZ access software and I will see if this fixes it. I doubt it will help, though. |

| I reinstalled the OS on a blank hard drive (WinXp-32bit SP2) but that didn't fix the problem. |

Verizon support has "never heard of this problem" even though several people on this forum are having it. Their only solution to any EVDO problem is "uninstall Venturi."
Their tech support is a complete waste of time, and I am stuck in a 2 year contract with this piece of junk.
P.S. Any easy way to reproduce this problem is to start several large downloads at once and then walk away from the computer for 10 minutes or so. When you come back it will be BSODed. |

Since you know what causes the problem you can avoid the bsd by not doing this....
The only result of doing multiple downloads at once is not having to wait and watch to start the next one. No time is saved as the download speed for each is reduced proportionately Maybe you can find a software download manager to create a cue of your downloads and do each in turn.
On a Mac SpeedDownload does this cueing, if memory is not hosed in cranial device. |

I think you're missing the point here. This is just a quick way to recreate the problem. The BSOD still happens during normal usage, just not as often. The bottom line is that it shouldn't be happening at all. I am one that is having the problems too and I haven't even talked to Verizon about it (because I know it will be useless), but I WILL just to make them aware of it.

I have the same problem with my HP Pavilion zv6000, and now my new HP Pavilion dv5000 using my Verizon v620 air card. After the new computer had the same problem, I got Verizon to replace the v620. Same thing. There are suggestions elsewhere that this may be an AMD problem (laptops are Athelon and Turion).
Is yours Intel or AMD processor? |

I am using an AMD Turion64. I ended up cancelling my account and paying the penalty for cancelling early.
Now I am back to wired internet access, but at least my computer isn't crashing anymore!!! |

The problem must be with usingg an HP laptop since I have not had this problem on my Sony PCG-6H4L or the Sony laptop with the Pentium 4 that ate battery life for breakfast or two Powerbook 17's. The Powerbooks occassionally refuse to awake from sleep if I put them to sleep without disconnecting the card. |

My problem with my fujitsu laptop and verizon 595 card was this:
evertime I put the card in on battery power I got the BSOD
Found out that even though the battery show fullcharge--it was not putting out enough power for the card to power correctly
Battery was 4years old |
