| Assuming the use of an antenna (directional), and if needed also an amplifier, what would be the maximum practical range that you could still get EVDO outside of the advertised coverage area? This is assuming a relatively clear signal path between me and the tower. I'm trying to see if I could set up to get EVDO from a fixed position outside normal coverage. |

I 've seen EVDO signal picked up as far away as 20 miles from a tower . cellular signal much further . The strength of the signal coming from the tower and number of users on said tower can be a factor as well. . Evdo signal does not seem to carry near as well as a normal Cellular signal |

This weekend I spent hours with a KC650 and 13 dB yagi trying to catch a decent signal in NW Pennsylvania. I had a 1.9GHz yagi, but no clue where to aim since I couldn't get a response from V on tower locations near Russell, PA. Very poor technical support so far.
Are any of the towers using 800 MHz? That would explain the poor signal on my yagi (-95).
Very disappointed. I can make a call, but lousy Internet. I'll probably send the equipment back and go to satellite.
ay
Does anyone know how to pry tower and spectrum info from Verizon? The towers and channels have to be registered, but there seems to be no support tail for remote home users... |

Have you tried www.cellreception.com . Might have tower locations . Also go to www.wirelessadvisor.com . Type in your zip code that will tell you what frequencies Verizon is using in your area |

Russell, PA does not have EVDO yet. You likely have slower speed 1xRTT instead of EVDO. You'll probably average 50-100Kbps whereas EVDO averages 400-700Kbps.
Maps.. click on Vcast.
