What is with VZAccess Manager and the Verizon EVDO card you sold me?

VZAccess Manager fails to respond if I don't hit the connection button as soon as the app opens. I have force quit and restart. It spends most of its time not responding.

If I forget and drag a file across the open app window, it halts the drag and takes many seconds before either the app or the file responds again.

And the card! It has constant ConnectionErr and Hangup Errors. It reached critical mass today with Apple's latest security patch. I have attempted to download Security Update 2006-002v1.1 more than two dozen times and the card hangs up each and every time.

To get back on-line I have to disconnect, power off the card, remove the card, insert the card, start VZAccess, and reconnect. All day long. Any other process won't work. The card will fail to connect, or connect and then immediately drop the connection.

This is the worst it has ever been, but it happens at least twice a day, or more, and has since I got the card.

Also, I can only download one thing at a time or the card hangs up.

Frequently when I power off the card I get a kernel panic.

I'm running Broadband Optimizer 1.5, but still the connection speed is all over the map -- probably depends on the alignment of the stars.

I do a lot of buying on eBay and can always count on the card dying just before an important auction.

I have a KR1 EVDO router on order, which I've been charged for but hasn't yet arrived, but I have no idea if that will improve the situation - I can't see that it will since the card physically hangs up on its own.

I think the Verizon card has a problem and VAZAccess Manager is crap -- it sure isn't a very good example of Mac programming.

I haven't seen this kind of thing mentioned on the forum in the past, but I also didn't go too far back.

Any ideas on how I can get this setup to work at least 99 9/10% of the time?

I have a 17" PB G4 1.33 w/2 GB RAM:

Machine Name: PowerBook G4 17"
Machine Model: PowerBook5,3
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.33 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.7.1f1

Looks like you had this since October 2, 2005. Has it been this way for the 5 1/2 months or has it recently started.

We have 1000s of Mac customers using this without any problem, so the first thing is to figure out what is different about your setup and how to fix it.

One of the problems you describe is fixed in VZAccess Manager 2.0.

I am emailing you a link to download VZAccess Manager 2.0 directly from us, upgrade and let us know if that helps.

Also, it is hard to tell, are you in NationalAccess or BroadbandAccesss and how strong is the signal strength?

I've tried to stay online more than 3 minutes with no success. Saw on a forum that some people had "throttled" down the speed. This seemed to work for them. How is it done?
