If you enable Mac Filters, so that only specific computers can connect to your KR1, there is a maximum limit of 8 that you can enter in. If you try to add 9 or more Mac Addresses, you will see this message:

Code:
Not enough spaces to add this entry

Of course, why would you want to add more than 8? Lets say, you are taking your KR1 to 12 different locations and each location has only one computer, you can only add 8 Mac Addresses.

Solution to get around this, enable WEP/WPA instead of only allowing access by Mac Address.

This was confirmed in RK1002.

Also, internally, while poking around, we noticed that the DHCP server is hard wired to handle 99 DHCP addresses.

Another vote for WPA-PSK. MAC address filtering doesn't keep knowledgeable spoofers off of your Wi-Fi connection.

If you're going to even bother with configuring MAC filters as an attempt to keep unwanted Wi-Fi users off of your network, why not just configure WPA-PSK instead? About the same bother of finding and pumping in MAC hex for each client.

With WPA-PSK, unwanted Wi-Fi users won't be able to connect AND your data stream is encrypted. C'mon folks... open channel monitor... tcpdump, Ethereal, airsnort... take your pick.

Read about configuring WPA-PSK till you're dizzy (then ask the family geek for help)

Hey Mike, can you edit the topic to reflect that you can only enter eight addresses into the MAC ACL? When I read the topic I thought you had tried to connect more than eight computers and that failed, heh.

The reason for this issue is simply that of available resources. Some hefty changes had to be made just before launch to get the feature working at all. And then, would you really want more than eight people using a single EVDO connection?

Is a fix for this a candidate for a future firmware release? MAC address filtering and encryption are two different animals that are used for different reasons...
