I've had the Kyocera vz card in my powerbook g4 for about 3 months with great success. All of a sudden, my computer no longer recognizes the card. The card still works perfectly in my other identical g4 powerbook, so it looks like some sort of slot failure. Any suggestions from the folks here would be appreciated! I've done a permissions fix, but have not taken the computer to the apple store for a tech check. I would imagine that a hardware repair would not be cheap.

If you installed the Verizon BroadbandAccess 1.0 drivers that Apple released in July 2004, that will completely hose any 10.4 system (doesn't cause a problem on 10.3), see this URL:

Apple Verizon Drivers don't work in 10.4 / Tiger

I would also see if you are getting a blue light on your KPC (is it getting power). Finally, look in About This Mac -> More Info, to see if the card is being recognized there.

Michael,

No blue light, which leads me to think it's some sort of hardware problem. The card has been working perfectly for several months, and just did not turn on the other day. I had used it fine earlier on the same day. There is no card icon in the top right icon bar. I've also not done any software upgrades or changes in the last few days. I'll look in the menu that you suggest.

My wife's powerbook which is virtually the same machine as mine is working perfectly with the vz access software.

I may try to take the machine to the local apple store. Would a disk repair help do you think?

Thanks!
Don

I have had the same problem on occasion with my Powerbook G4 and the KPC650 card. I found that ejecting the card, restarting the computer and then open the vzacess software, then reinsert the card seemed to solve the problem for me. I also think that 10.4.5 seemed to squash whatever bug was causing the problem.

Good luck!

I am using 10.4.5 osx. I will try your solution! I will also uninstall the vz manager software, and reinstall it. But I'm still wondering if this is a hardware problem with the card slot.

Thanks!

Problem solved! We took my computer to the apple store, and they confirmed a hardware failure. They pulled out the keyboard, and found the card slot controller had dislodged from it's clip. A simple reseat back into it's clip, and the KCP card works fine now.

Thanks to all who responded!

Thanks for letting us know. Perhaps the solution will help someone else who finds this thread with the same problem.
