hey all, i just purchased a new dell e1705 laptop. as "cutting edge" as they are, the option for a pcmcia slot is no longer available. now they've moved on to the new standard - expresscard 54/34. as a result, i don't have the laptop card option to get onto the evdo network with my laptop. the new macbooks are in the same boat.

does sprint or anyone have any plans to come out with an expresscard version of their pcmcia cards? when?

thanks,
andy

One of the local hardcore Sprint aficionados may likely pop up in this thread to provide you with behind-the-lines speculation/info... but you may want to keep your eyes on this thread. A few Dell early-adopters like yourself have contributed their desires for a card there. When an ExpressCard surfaces, be it for Sprint or Verizon, it will get listed there.

Here are a few links on EVDOinfo.com related to the topic:

ExpressCard/34 & ExpressCard/54 For EVDO

MacBook Pro and EVDO

We will be reporting from the CTIA show during the first week in April - and this would be the logical place for companies to make announcements.

Let's hope so... all you Makbook Pro / Dell ExpressCard hopefuls will finally feel the EVDO love. *wink*

One temp option is to use a PowerVision phone as a USB or Bluetooth modem. Downside is you can't talk on phone at same time. Upside is it is only $40/month instead of $60/month. Several people at work use the A900 phone as modem. Cool phone and works on Mac too.. but some wish it had an SD slot.

It is a little surprising laptop makers are doing expresscard only with no pccard slot. A little forceful for the first round. You'd think they'd transition over a year.

The ThinkPad T32, supports both PCMCIA and ExpressCard - now that is a smart manufacturer, make the transition painless.
