Great site, wealth of knowledge and resources.
I have read most of this thread but didn''t see anything related concerning my issue. I am using a Centro for data, phone as a modem and web browsing in an area that''s both 1XRTT and EVDO near by. My speeds are slow, and while better after changing HA's it's not near the speed I expect. I understand the Centro is Rev0 not RevA but it should still be faster then an avg of 150/kbps or so. When I access ##data# it showed my primary HA as 255.255.255.255 and the secondary as 68.28.113.76 (N.J.) I switched both to KC area 68.28.81.76/77 and it seems better but still not EVDO speeds, when I am on EVDO. I did get a burst in EVDO from the handset; 504/kbps which is the fastest from dslreports.com. I made sure the Centro is provisioned properly with teir 3 data and it''s on the proper Power Vision provisioning. I have even overclocked the processor but it doesn''t help much.
Can anyone offer suggestions? Or an explanation why my primary goes to 255.255.255.255 by default like to get up to 800 or so in EVDO, thanks. |

The issue with Palm-based devices is the Blazer browser, not the phone or the network. The browser is the bottleneck.
I have a Treo 700p and can rarely hit 200Kbps with Blazer but if I tether it to a laptop, I can get over 1Mbps with USB cable or up to 500Kbps with bluetooth tethering.
What is your performance with Blazer vs when tethering? And are you doing bluetooth or USB tethering?
Also, what is your signal strength? Dial ##DEBUG# and post the RSSI. |

Is it? I notice about the same speeds but have OC'ed the browser to about 585MHz. My RSSI is weak when I tested it, -107 to -103. When I ran the speed test I had 3 signal bars (not 1).
I just tethered on an EVDO signal (blue data arrows) and got 376/kbps down and 67/kbps up and a 364ms ping time. This is about an average speed, even where signal is strong. The fastest ever has been around 500, both via browser and tethered. My slingbox streams, at best, 300 but 117-130 on average.
Do you know why my primary HA by default is 255.255.255.255 and shouldn't I be getting better speeds |

Well alright, it must be all about the signal strength. I am now sitting in an area with great signal (RSSI -63) and just got 1102 up and 112 down on the first test.
Good to know, this is on IP 70.12.2.233 with the KC HA's. Now all I need is a good signal at home! |

|
|
hi,
I just received a Franklin CDU-680 through a different Sprint Reseller (sprint network reseller).
Nothing happens when I do the ##DATA thing.
I've followed the directions exactly except for "disable NDIS", what is NDIS and how do I disable it?
Thanks,
my home agent is set to the other side of the country and ping times are 500 ms. |

The CDU-680 connection manager does not have an option for NDIS.
Click somewhere on the connection manager first, then place your mouse cursor over the +/- button (it will change color slightly), hold down the shift key and type ##DATA. This is assuming you have your MSL code and have entered it when requested. _________________ --Sprint EVDO-- |

Thanks a lot, that worked.
I switched my HA to the one that says 'somewhere in Florida', as I am somewhere in Florida, however speedtest.net puts me in Kansas somewhere. Nevertheless my speeds and pings got about 2x better! Thanks a lot.
FYI:
Originally area 1, I got about 1200 kbps download, 160 upload, 550 ms ping.
Now area 7, either one, I get 323 ms ping, 2600 kbps download, 350 kbps upload. |

I don't have a Windows Mobile phone but this utility apparently allows you to get the MSL code for most Sprint WM phones.
You need to enter the HEX ESN#, likely in the battery compartment of phone. |

| Mr. Stroker... not sure where that is but I went to www.speedtest.net and used one of those HA's and it gave a server for testing to in OK , so I am assuming it would be somwhere near there .....but I also could not find exactly where that ha is located..... |

I haven't fully confirmed this but when setting the primary address to 255.255.255.255 it will apparently automatically set to the nearest HA. The secondary address needs to be a valid address in the list. Apparently it works this way with Alltel users and from what I can tell, Sprint users too.
I'll be traveling to FL tomorrow and will confirm if the HA changes to that region. |

I have confirmed that the HA changes automatically to one near you while traveling when setting the primary address to 255.255.255.255. I was in area2 before traveling and now in FL, it changed to area7 on its own.
Anyone who travels often may want to set to 255's.
Will be changing the original post when I get time, about when best to do what. |

Is it possible to change the HA on a Sprint Aircard 595? I pulled up the ##DATA screen, but could find nothing that seemed to look like a primary/secondary HA. There are 14 tabs, so it's possible I'm missing something or it’s labeled differently.
My apologies if this has been covered already, I've poked around these forums and elsewhere and can't seem to locate any info either way. |
