Sprint has apparently been tuning the HAs. There was one HA (177 subnet) in Ft. Worth that had performance issues. I sent a message to engineer at Sprint and they confirmed there were issues and now it is fixed. I tested the HA last couple days and it is indeed performing as high as tower can go (>1Mbps).
They've also turned off the compression proxies in the last week but I don't know if it is permanent. If local compression is turned off, you should see the full image, w/out graininess.
But I think there is a new issue to consider. The HA assigned to your card is apparently tied to the account, the location of the billing address, and it does not change as you travel. Problem is, for company-owned cards, the HA is mostly likely assigned to the billing location of the company. We have over 100 data cards rolled out to users across the country. Almost all of the cards have HA addresses assigned to the location of where billing is processed in Des Moines so the HAs are mostly set to Omaha (89 subnet). So we ship the cards to users on the coasts and elsewhere and their default HA is in the midwest. We are manually changing the HAs for cards before we ship them out. Problem is, when they do an Update Profile or firmware upgrade, it will set back to the HA assigned to the account. Will send to Sprint and see how they respond.
Michael, might want to check if this happens to cards you sell. Does the HA get assigned to the person's home region or your region, for the ones you pre-activate? |

| Yes, I will have to agree they have greatly improved HA's especially in my area. Down in CO Springs, I would pull at school around 400kbps. I was pulling over a meg consistantly last night. I reverted my HA's back to the original, so there is nothing causing it to be any different. This is pretty cool Sprint is doing this. |

Well, I got another 5740 card (they wouldn't exchange it for the s620) and it still doesn't work in my area. However the tech said that "Sprint is updating their towers" or something like that. Nice!
I did check the speed at my sisters house in the suburbs, 1.2M speeds no problem! So at least I know it's not my PC.
Is there a way to find out where the tower is located in my area? |

| You are indeed getting good results. Where are you located? Did you change the HA before each test to those regions or just test each site with same HA? |

| I just tested the Ft. Worth 177 subnet a few times and was getting 1.2-1.3Mbps. Might depend on loads at time of day. Methinks the HA should never be the bottleneck though. If there is to be a bottleneck, it should only be expected at the tower. |

dont know, the area 5 node has always been slow for me.
i know the tower isnt my limitation, as plainly seen from my post w/the speed tests. |

The Speakeasy site seems to bloat results a little bit. I've never able been able to get over 1.2Mbps with the 6700 when I tested it while the S620 could do up to 1.8Mbps. New firmware upgrade on it? Might want to also try testing on...

Also try storing results into archive. |
