First thing I tried after getting Mac OS X 10,4 / Tiger, was to try a Sierra PC 5220 (same as Audiovox PC 5220 & AirPrime 5220).
It worked perfectly, just like it did with 10.3.5 or greater, no drivers to install, just insert the 5220 in the PC Slot and it is recognized. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I have a 5220 card which I'm trying to use in a PowerBook 17" with 10.4. I was using this card in the same machine under 10.3.x just fine, but with Tiger it just blinks a red light at me. I've rebooted and removed/inserted the card a number of times. I've tried to activate it (sometimes it just does it, sometimes it hangs). If I try to connect, I get a PPP failure message. Always the red light though, so I know it won't connect.
I'm in an area with decent signal strengt (1xRTTonly), and a Windows machine in the same room works fine with the same card.
Ideas? |

No, I learned that lesson the hard way when I first installed it on 10.3. Actually it wasn't so hard, I was able to remove them and the prefs files, and make it work without reinstalling the OS.
Right now the card is working, I'm at the airport typing this. I didn't do anything to fix it, other than remove/replace the card and reboot many many times. Also, the machine's UI would often hard-lock when I would turn off the card or pull it out. The apps and processes would continue to run, I could SSH to it, but the UI would not accept any KB or mouse input and the mouse pointer was stuck. It would pop up the sleep/restart/shutdown menu if I pressed the power button, but I couldn't select anything.
Oddly enough, this also happened to me when I first started using this card on 10.3. It happened with another PowerBook (recently upgraded to the latest generation). I don't recall any issues using it on Windows machines, but I very rarely do that. So I wonder if I have a faulty card...?
Once the card works, then the lockups stop, and the card is quite reliable. That leads me to believe it's more of a software issue. |
