I keep checking the status page on my backordered KR1 (ordere 2/14). It seems like every time I check, it says your order will be shipping xx/xx. Then I check back on that day, and it has been delayed another week. Does anyone have a realistic idea of when our KR1's will be shipping?

As soon as Michael gets them from Kyocera . If you do some reading in the forums you will find Kyocera has held up production on the units to iron out some problems they had with the first production run. Michael only puts up the information he gets from Kyocera . He has no control over the situation . You will find the same thing if you try to purchase the same unit direct from Kyocera. The man can't ship what he does not have . He was told he would have them to ship by the manufacturer and he still does not . Hence they are backordered. So just be patient my friend and do some reading and learning and hang out with us.

Hello,

Thank you to all for being so patient.

The date you are seeing on our order page keeps changing because of updated information that we keep getting from Kyocera. If you placed your order, it will still be shipped in the order that it was placed. Please do not beg/plead/demand shipping any sooner, as that is not possible.

It is looking like that sometime around 3/22 (yes another 2 weeks), all backorders will be fulfilled and we should have quantities in stock for next day dellivery. We are used to shipping the same day, and not is it only frustrating for you, but it is frustrating for us too.

The problem, is that Kyocera is interested in fixing some of the known problems (and even some that are not known), and having a rock solid product that doesn't tax their support call center. The good news, that many users who already have these units, see how well they work.

So, be patient and soon, there will be plenty to be had.

Michael,

I for one would MUCH rather have the KR1 now with the functionality that is available. Ship it with some release notes/errata and let people update the firmware when it becomes available.

Their call center volume is a cost of doing business and not really of concern to consumers. There will ALWAYS be bugs. That's why they have a call center and the same reason the firmware is upgradable.

What is of concern to me as a consumer is that I'm losing faith in the credibility of Kyocera because of this 'game' of each week telling us it'll be another week. I'd much rather have a real date than be lied to time after time. I'm certain someone in their marketing department thinks it's the best way to manage customer perception, but quite frankly, it's misleading, deceptive and unethical.

Please feel free to pass my feelings along if you think they'll do any good.

I can appreciate the reasoning for the delays. It is a new product, and there are going to be some bugs.

However - why has my card already been charged? That is what irks me. My card was charged the day of my order - and yet there is no ETA of a ship date.

Up until the KR1, we would ship everything the same day. Our system was setup to auto charge credit cards because of this.

Just as we have been reporting on ship dates of the KR1 over the last few months - we have being doing the same.... as we received updated information, we posted it on our web site, in an effort to keep everyone informed.

This has been just as frustrating for us (as those that have ordered it).

Until the KR1s are in stock (after all backorders are fulfilled), we have re-programmed our storefront to only authorize and not charge credit cards (implemented around 1pm CST today). Any order before that, would have been charged. If you would like a credit and cancel your order, please contact us and we will do that for you.

For those that continue to wait, we will be shipping in the order that they are received.

Thanks for the quick response. I understand the difficulty of the situation for you as well. Hopefully it will rectify itself soon and Kyocera will start shipping.
