Hello all:
Newbie here.
I just got an Audiovox 6600 with Verizon EVDO service. I would like to use this as a USB modem with my Linux laptop. Anyone tried to do this?

check the usbconnection first by typing "lsusb" in konsole

nanda:/home/nandika # lsusb
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 005: ID 0bb4:00cf High Tech Computer Corp. SPV C500 Smart Phone
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

then u find ur usb device connected with

then type
sudo /sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=[] product=[]

in this case i type
nanda:/home/nandika # sudo /sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=0xbb4 product=0x0cf

then type wvdialconf
nanda:/home/nandika # wvdialconf
Editing `/etc/wvdial.conf'.

its mean that ur usb modem is connectcted and ready to use
but u must edit the configuration of wvdial for match with the ur ISP configuration
by type vim /etc/wfdial.conf

nanda:/home/nandika # sudo vim /etc/wvdial.conf

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 460800
Init1 = AT
Init2 = AT+crm=1{if u use a time based internet connection}
Init3 = ATE0V1
Phone = #777
Username = [ur username]
Password = [ur password]
Stupid Mode = 1
ISDN = 0
#Auto DNS = 1

save ur config
to activate the internet connection just type "wvdial"
nanda:/home/nandika # wvdial
