Albuquerque is an 800mhz market only for Verizon. Verizon tends to only put EVDO in 1900mhz markets. But they have done a couple 800mhz only markets so it's always a possibility. They would otherwise rollout 1900mhz towers with EVDO. Verizon has not yet given any indication if 100% of their native network will have EVDO (as Sprint has).

For Sprint, New Mexico is an Alamosa Sprint partner. Markets completely managed by Alamosa have not yet rolled out EVDO. South Carolina too. Sprint is in the process of buying Alamosa so NM and SC would likely get EVDO sometime after the purchase, which I think is to finalize this month. What's difficult to figure is if it would be early this year or sometime next year but likely next year at latest. |

Update: The Alamosa purchase must have just finalized. When you visit the site, it goes to Sprint...

Many thanks. Neither seems to be quick enough for me. My time will be up in Albuquerque before they do anything from what you described. I guess I will have to get a T-Mobile account to use in the hotel. Oh well.
Hell, I even now understand why my Cingular/AT&T cell phone seems to have a split personality in AQB. It is like living in the telecom dark ages!! Ok, that was a bit dramatic :-0 _________________ Victor |

| Updated Muncie and Anderson, IN which now have Sprint EVDO. South Bend is marked as 'future'. If anyone has tried it there, please post results. |

Sprint has apparently started the next rollout phase of EVDO, shown as "future" EVDO coverage on the maps (in yellow). IE, the south region of Lake Okeechobee in FL has been reported to have EVDO and is marked as Future.

Would be interesting to know if anyone is already getting EVDO coverage in your area marked as 'future' (yellow) but not as existing (orange). It would generally be the outer edges of your metro area, but I'd suspect Sprint goes for higher population density areas first.
Please post your findings. |

Southeast Florida has excellent covererage in the developed areas with some deadspots, I guess.
I tried using I-75 which begins in Fort Lauderdale and cuts across the Evergldes to Naples on the west coast and then swings northward. It cuts the everglades in two pieces, the northern part belonging to the sugar companies with some Micosuke areas and orange groves. The sugar grows on drained land so if you are interested in saving the Everglades, you're realy late...
Anyway, I-75 shows excellent cell phone strength on Sprint so I hoped that translated into good EVDO coverage. Nope. Just cell phone. When I tried to use the S620 with my Sony I got this unexpected message that my password was invalid and that I had three tries to get it right or they would come and take away my laptop...
I have the card set for EVDO only so got no nothing. This was prior to mile marker 35 and sitting between to towers only a few miles away. |

| Have traveled extensively in KY with my new Verizon card in the last two weeks. Coverage is available in the following cities in addition to the Verizon maps: Lexington, KY, Elizabethtown, KY, Bowling Green, KY, Paducah, KY, Hopkinsville, KY, Clarksville, TN and at least patches of coverage on major interstate connections between these cities. |

| Did you have an EVDO (BroadbandAccess) connection or 1xRTT (NationalAccess) connection? It would be significant news if Verizon has started a next phase EVDO rollout, which has not been announced. |

Both the Broadband Access and the 1xRTT strength meters were showing signal. I only accessed the Broadband network and generally got good connections.

Added Atlanta as a reported new area for Cingular HSDPA.

I've decided not to track US markets below 50K population in the first post as it will be difficult to track as more come online. They can be posted in this thread.
