|
|
I think I have a defective KR1. It works fine for a period of five or six hours, then begins dropping WLAN and WAN connections more and more often until the WAN will no longer connect at all. Unplugging the unit and letting it sit for half an hour or so seems to bring it back.
When it fails, the Status and WAN LEDs go out. I've seen the status LED go red twice, but it may have happened more than that -- I showed my son how to recycle the unit but didn't ask him to check the LEDs.
Any hints will be appreciated,
A. |

Might want to try resetting to factoring settings. While powered on, hold the reset button for at least 5-10 seconds untiil it blinks several times. Try with factory settings and if stable, then run Wizard, set passwords and encryption, etc.
Also do have more than one WiFi client, like two or more laptops? Do all have the problem? |

Last question first: yes, four computers are connecting. Two are laptops, two desktops with WiFi cards. All have intermittent problems.
Regarding resetting, I'll think it over. Security is a very minor issue -- it's barely conceivable at my remote location that anyone will ever find my WiFi network -- so I wouldn't be worried about leaving the network open for a while.
Thanks for the reply,
A. |

| There is also a system log you can turn on and view (I think it is under status). If something is going wrong, something should appear there. |

| Try reseating the PCMCIA card you are using. It is actually a USB controller, and it seems to not be connecting properly. |

OK, I'll try that. As others have noted, it's a considerable challenge to get the card (a Verizon V620) seated. I'll give it an extra shove next time.
Come to think of it, if this proves to be the problem it will definitely reinforce the word "defective" in my subject. There's something wrong with the position of that connector. I'll keep you posted.

Ya know, I almost deleted the lines referring to the USB controller, assuming they were just noise that was not related to my problem. Good thing I left them in....
