|
|
Hi Everyone,
I am new to this. But here is the situation. I purchased a Treo 700W (Verizon) with my regular voice plan + $44.99 unlimited Broadband access. With some research from the internnet. I believe I can get a software from http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/ to make the Tethering possible. However, I worry I would be charged extra by doing Tethering on my laptop with it.
1> My question is, since my data plan is unlimited, am I allow to do so?
2? Would they actually find out that I am accessing data off my laptop?
3> Any other suggestions!?

| I know a tech who told me that they know that most people tether if it can be done. There are some people using up to 8 gigabytes and they say nothing. They are worried about large game files and web hosting. If you use it for email and web browsing like I do, the tech told me they don't care. Most all of the people that have been charged have been caught downloading large files or webhosted. |

I'm not sure the exact cutoff, but what he said is true. A flag in our system will not appear unless you cross the threshhold of Data usage. If you do P2P, audio/video streaming, web hosting, or any other major upload/downloading then you would not want to try it out. Once you cross that data level as far as I know, We would shut your service off and charge you for the cancelling of your contract as you the end user broke your contract with us.
But the other thing is we can tell the difference between ANY browsing done on the device or on a computer. It will not come to our attention unless you go over that data level or have any kind of escalation through our technical support centers. I think our highest level support would be able to tell the difference in usage types immediately. |

| Unfortunately they will not tell me the cutoff, since that information is about 3 levels above me. the people that know this are not even in a support group, they're internal only... So thats a no go. I do know it should be quite high as people uses gigs worth all the time... doubt that helps, sorry |

Thanks for trying. It sure would be nice to know the LIMIT of my UNLIMITTED Wireless Broadband Access account. ;]
Fighting. Desire. To. Get. On. My. Soapbox. Must. Be. Strong...
Ugh!
Ok ok, just a 'cya' for dealing with heavy data abusers, etc...
But what if Grandpa and Grandma Jones rack up gigabytes and gigabytes of transfer by streaming their favorite old public domain Bing Crosby performances? (in HD) ;]
Wouldn't it be fair to let these upstanding folks know the limits? "You get THIS much. Go past that and..." |

| If everyone who got "the letter" posted their usage, maybe we could figure it out. |
