will it???!?! i'm looking into cancelling my sprint (PC card only).
why?
i love sprint. but i hate their pc card evdo.. the compression drives me insane (yes i use firefox's UA switcher), sometimes it doesnt work.. sometimes the page shows up screwy like treocentral for example.. and i hate the fact that i have to screw with my browser just to see images correctly.
i get speeds nowhere close to the normal range of 400-700kbps.. i do consistently get around 300kbps down and 125kbps up however.
and i also play games. well game... mainly world of warcraft. the latency sucks arse... `=(
so i tried out the HSPDA card and it works so awesomely awesome.
please tell me it'll work with the router.

If I were only getting 300Kbps, I'd return the card too. So if you have HSDPA, could you test it here and post the results to the archive? I'd be interested to know what domain it shows up as...
http://speedtest.frontiernet.net
Would also like to know ping times of HSDPA to say, this site. |

Wonder of wonders
I've been a Verizon Wireless DATA customer for several years (4-5?) and have been generally happy with the service, first 1xRTT and now EVDO.
At work we have several users on VZW data plans, based primarily on my experience and because 'it just works' where and when they need it.
Our parent corporation has recently signed an agreement with Cingular for Wireless Voice and Data services.
SOooo...Yesterday the boss handed me a Cingular based Sierra Wireless AirCard 860 for testing.
Our intent is to send this card out with one of our 'power travelers' and have him compare the coverage and 'feel' of the Cingular and Verizon services, but he is currently out of the area doing his job.
Enough background.
This morning I did some speed testing comparing V620 on VZW and the AC580 on Cingular
I used 2 testing providers,
http://speedtest.frontiernet.net, the Elk Grove, Calif. site and
http://speedtest.speakeasy.net, the Seattle site.
Now I live north east of Seattle on a south facing hill just to the southwest of the intersection of I405 and SR522.
I did the testing at about 7AM. At that time of day, there is a southbound 'parking lot' on I405, that I can see from the back window of my house even though it is a mile away.
At any rate here are the data points for two wireless services along with a comparison using my Verizon based DSL connection (1.5M/128k) connection.
Three consecutive runs
Accelerators OFF
Computer is a Dell D800 running WindowXP with all patches through Feb 14, 2006, 1GB RAM

DSL

As always...your mileage may (and probably will) vary.
I'll do some more testing later, after work since neither service works well at work...
