OK, so the KR1 is here (finally).
Lets start a discussion on Terms of Service (TOS) and the Kyocera KR1. Anyone worried about this topic? I suspect, that many will be using it with one computer, but it is easy to share the connection (even accidently - so enable passwords on your KR1).
To catch up, here is a thread that already discusses this:

No, not too worried, at least for myself. Though I have a number of customers who have been waiting for the KR1 and it would concern me greatly to install one into their system and then have one of the providers (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel) yank the plug. That would be BAD.
These are folks out in rural areas who have no other way to connect at highspeed aside from SkyPC. One of my prelim tests required a large antenna just to pull in 1xRTT signal... still waiting to see if they greenlight EVDO in that case.
In another case there is a local WISP that can't realistically add a repeater to their system to reach two or three customers. It wouldn't cover their equipment costs.
So these emerging highspeed wireless services (EVDO/HSDPA) will be the only hope for many folks. Yet if their use creates conflict for other mobile telephone users I would not be entirely suprised to see service disconnection.
Due to the income vs. bandwidth model that phone subscribers make up compared to the income vs. bandwidth model that highspeed subscribers makeup I could see where mobile phone users bring a higher return for the bandwidth, so they may possibly have the allegience of the service providers more so than data-only users would.
Still... I believe it is unethical to rely on a misleading ToS or misleading mainstream advertising to sell a service that a provider may not want to actually provide.

Just for clarification - ALLTEL does not have any TOS that would limit your EVDO usage. However, since they are only in 12 significant metropolitan areas, most of you do not have that option.
I think the real test will be if a Carrier actually starts reselling the KR1, since that might become a defacto endorsement of "unlimited" use. |

| Thanks for the ALLTEL clarification Zorog. Good point about KR1 "defacto endorsement." Considering ALLTEL and Verizon's use of the KPC650, the ball is in their court. |
