Windows Updates fails to download and install patches when I am using the S620. Get the following error in the windows update log:

0x80200011 -2145386479 BG E MISSING FILE SIZE

When BITS sends a HEAD request and server/proxy doesn't return Content-Length header in the response, BITS puts the job in ERROR state with BG E MISSING FILE SIZE. BITS 1.5 puts the job in ERROR state with BG E INVALID SERVER RESPONSE error. Apache 2.0 proxy server is known to exhibit this behavior.

This does not happen using WI-FI or RJ-45, works everytime without making any system or firewall changes. Don't know if this is because S620 is on 1xRTT, I'll have to test the DO side when I get back home.

Has anyone experienced this with their S620?

have you come to a resolution/conclusion?

I use the S620 and have pulled ALL updates after a SP2 install over the sprint data service witht he S620.

I have been getting the same problem the last 2 days when I've tried to update. Then my automatic update ran and pulled 2 of the six pending updates, which I installed, rebooted, and tried Windows update again and it worked perfectly?

No. Still having the problem pulling the updates. Using Windows XP Home edition with service pack 2. The s620 card has prl 20218 and firmware revision 155.

I have to get the KB number and pull them down from the technet site. I've tried using NDIS mode and that does not change the result. In addition, it does not matter if I'm on the EVDO or 1xRTT network, both fail to pull the updates. I have even tried using another laptop that I have just purchased and get the same results. Not really sure what's going on but I keep researching for a solution. It almost appears that the Windows Update site looses track of the network connection and goes into this error mode. For now I use the caveman method of manual downloads. Thanks for the reply.

Oh, the laptops I'm using are an HP 1510 and Gateway MX3215. Other than this inconvenince the card and service are great!

Cheers

Have you tried update with a wired connection or WiFi? If they have the problem, it may be something with Windows.

Thanks. I have verified that connecting to a WIFI (hotspot) or LAN (work) works successfully. The problem only exists when I use the s620 card.

Both windowsupdate logs show the same error:

Error 0x80200011
Download job failed because of insufficient range support

When i googled it, I found this:

"BITS uses range header in HTTP requests to request parts of a file. If the server or proxy doesn't understand Range requests and returns full file instead of the requested range, BITS puts the job in ERROR state. Apache 1.3 proxy is known to show this behavior if the requested file is already in the cache."

Does Sprint use proxy?

On the HP 1510 laptop I have performed some of the suggested resolutions to this BITS error without any success. I have made no changes on the Gateway MX3215 system.
