My Verizon PC5740 Card was working flawlessly for a least a month or so, then on January 21, 2006, the card stopped working. No lights, nothing. Device Manager listed the device with a yellow exclamation mark. I receive the following error message when I view the device properties in Device Manager:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. (Code 12)

I have uninstalled the VZAccess Manager software (Verizon's software for the card) and reinstalled it. Restarted in safe mode. Manually removed the affected drivers. I tried several other PCMCIA cards to determined whether the "Code 12" would occur with cards other than the Verizon PC5740 Card. I also upgraded the BIOS on the ThinkPad. So far nothing has worked. I have been unable to install the recommended Microsoft's hotfixes. Apparently the hotfixes were incorporated in SP2.

I contacted Verizonwireless and they were unsuccessful in resolving my issue with the Verizon PC5740 Card. They sent another card. That one did not work either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bob

There is an automatic driver 'Software Installer' for Thinkpads on IBM's site. You may want to update all of your drivers assuming you have WiFi or ethernet connection as an option somewhere.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=SOFT-UPDATE#AN&sitestyle=lenovo

Also, do other PC cards work? Could be bad controller on laptop.

I downloaded the software update tool and updated all of the drivers. The card still wouldn't work. They had me run a diagnostic from the a cd and the thinkpad passed with flying colors. I am stumped.
Finally, without flinching, IBM tech asked "where do you want me to send the box (to return the unit to IBM for repair)?

Thanks again
