I have a UML290 that connects fine with the VZW software but when I plug the 290 into the MBR1400 it won't connect, I upgraded to the latest firmware 5.1.0 but it still doesn't connect.

the 1400 says "connecting" then it says "Ping timeout"

Any suggestions on what top try next?

Thanks
Brian

Did you reset the router to the factory default settings after the firmware upgrade? I know that this can sometimes resolve an odd issue that occurs after a firmware upgrade.

The card might be toggling between 3G and 4G try locking the card to 3G or 4G

1. Click on the 'Internet' tab then 'Connection Manger'
2. Under the 'WAN Interfaces' highlight the modem and click 'Edit'
3. In the 'WAN Configuration' section select the 'Modem Settings' tab
4. In the 'Modem Settings' section locate the 'LTE Connection Mode: selection
5. Select the setting you would like to lock into i.e Force LTE, or Auto EVDO/1XRTT only
6. Click 'Submit'

I tried every option but so far it still won't connect.

Was the UML290 working in the MBR1400 previously or is this the first time you are using it with the router?

I just got it and so far it's never connected in the MBR1400, it will connect when used with the VZW software on my computer.

1. Login to the router admin page

2. From the top menu, select the "Internet" drop down menu, and the choose "Connection Manager"

Under "WAN Interfaces" is LTE Pantech UML290 enabled? It should have a green light next to it, and also be the first item listed...if not click the UP arrow to make it the top priority.

Also when you upgraded the firmware, did you check to make sure the firmware you downloaded matched the hardware version you have? There are MBR1400 HW 1.0 & HW 2.0 versions.

I thought you said in your first post that the MBR1400 indicated that the UML290 would say "Connecting" and then timeout? If there is a green light by the UML290 in the Connection Manager, then it's connected...

Also what dB signal strength is the UML290 showing in the MBR1400?

Are you unable to access the internet from multiple machines that are connected to the MBR1400?

I misread your question, The green light isn't on.
I watch the 290 in the WAN interface screen as it tries to connect, it gets the IP address and Gateway but then in says Ping timeout

Have you tried re-activating the UML290 in the MBR1400?

In the router admin page click Internet, and then select Modem Settings. Select the UML290 and then click Activate/Update to see if it can successfully activate or update the PRL info in the MBR1400.

Also look in the Craldepoint admin page to see what the UML290's [dB] signal strength (RSSI) is. Just curious to see how strong of a signal the Cradlepoint is reporting since you are having issues connecting.

I don't have an activate/update option.
i didn't write it down but the signal is great.
as I've said it works great when plugged into my laptop with VZW software, so the problem must be with the MBR1400

That's very odd that you don't have the option to activate/update the UML290 if you followed the instructions above. You may want to exchange the MBR1400 for another model if you are having this many issues with it.

As a final effort: Try downgrading the firmware to version 4.4.2

The UML290 was tested with this version of firmware and worked fine.

I have the UML290 in the MBR1400, running 5.0 FW, and that is correct that there is not an activation option for it. To get to it, you go to Internet --> Connection Manager; Click the modem, and click Control. The window that comes up only has a Reset button, and a message "This device does not support PRL Update, Activation or FUMO."

Mine works fine, you wouldn't happen to have a static IP would you? If so you need to set it. And if you don't, make sure under SIM/APN you have default selected. I have a static IP so I have the APN set to manual and specified.

If you have a static IP address make sure you have the correct APN information (see link below). IF you don't have a static IP address make sure the APN is set to VZWINTERNET

FYI: For 4G devices phone or modems, the PRL is routinely automatically pushed to the device via the SIM card (just like it is on GSM phones). So there is no need for 4G users to invoke a manual PRL update.
