Hello all
I'm considering purchasing an EVDO card, but am unsure of what to get. I don't seem to be technically minded enough to deduce the difference from the technical specs, and I've been unable to find a decent side-by-side comparisions or a review of the Kyocera, so I'm mostly stuck trying to deduce which one is better using their ads. (Aka "Commercial Propaganda")
Any ideas? I know the Krocera has an adjustable antenna, and while that might be wonderful for a wifi card, it seems absolutely useless for anything as wide-area as EVDO and RTT. I've heard many good things about the Novatel on this site, but nearly nothing on the Krocera. (And the compare feature on Verizon's website is USELESS. "Does it have a color screen?" I'd be scared if it did!) I don't really care about size/bulkiness one way or the other.
I'll be using mostly RTTx1 on the card, with an eventual switch to EVDO: I live in Portland Oregon- Consulting sales agents, they say (In an off-to-the-side whisper) that Portland will be at EVDO speeds by the end of the year, but they -are- sales agents, so getting the most out of RTTx1 will be my #1 priority for at least a few months. (And yes, I have considered EDGE, but really, RTT isn't -much- slower, and it has a wider coverage area, which is something I'll need. Plus, there's always the chance I'll get EVDO speeds someday.)
Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated.
-Jeffrey
P.S. If that was too much for you to sift through, here's my question, boiled down to its constituant atoms, quarks, and leptops: "Should I spend the extra 50 bucks and get a K650, or is the V620 just as good?"
P.P.S. Bonus points if you know what a leptop is. I sure don't. |

I don't think there's tuppence difference in the current crop of cards other than the fold up antenna. I read the Kocera has the later software with text messaging and quick 2 net like the V620 so whatever makes sense to you is probably going to work.
One thing I've noticed with the latest version of VZAccess manager (V620 & Kocera) is it's ability to manage 1xrtt, wi fi and EVDO smoothly.
I'm rarely in 1x territory but having the option to switch between evdo and wi fi is fairly handy and probably would be for you too. If you hit a wi fi hot spot in your area you could escape 1x for the duration. _________________ Dell M1210 5700 |

| *Laughs!* I used to be on someone called "Shannon"'s wifi, but I think she caught on and disconnected it. I can still reach it, but my system reports 0 connectivity. No internet for me : ( |
