|

Hello All,
I have owned a TREO for years (Treo 600, 650) etc. Now that Palm OS is dying on the vine, I purchased a XV6700 from Verizon. I love the prospects of using this phone. However, I have spent a few days trying to get ActiveSync to work. Technical support with Verizon is good, but because its a relatively new offering, they pass me to Audiovox and they are not so helpful. I am relatively experienced with computers, etc but for the life of me I can't get the sync to work.
If I go to the Microsoft website, they say to use ActiveSync 4.0 with Microsoft Mobile 5.0. However, both Verizon and Audiovox ask me to upgrade to ActiveSync 4.1.
Is anyone using Active Sync 4.1 and the XV6700 successfully? Are there any tricks you tried to make it finally establish a connection between outlook and the XV6700?
Thanks for any insight. |

I work at VZW tech support and hear this ALL DAY LONG. It is also the story with the Treo 700w. Not sure what Microsoft did to AS 4 but they really screwed something.
I first thought that the phone may only have liked a certain brand of USB controller chip. (i.e. my i700 worked better with NEC than VIA) But being I don't actually own one of these devices, I can't really test. I am still in WM2003 world with my i730. _________________ 595, 595U, 5750 |

Hello there,
I know when I first got my PPC-6700(on Sprint) I had a heckuva time getting it to sync up with AS 4.0. I later learned in the www.pdaphonehome.com forums that my firewall might be blocking access. After some advanced configuring of the .dll's AS uses in ZoneAlarm, I could sync without a hitch. If you search those forums I think you can find the thread describing how to step-by-step configure your firewall (ZoneAlarm in my case) to allow AS syncing. Just a thought.

I had similar problems, but got them all fixed. You need to disconnect the PDA, reboot your machine, then uninstall active sync, then go to www.pocketpc.com to get the new version of active sync (4.1) Install that, dont worry if it hangs up at 93%. That should fix it, if not, check to make sure script blocking is disabled on your virus software. |

| Getting my 6700 to sync with outlook has also been a real challenge. My problems were caused (and solved) by resolving conflicts between Wireless Sync and Active Sync. Check settings in Wireless Sync (start/programs/wireless sync). In its menu there is an ActiveSync setup. Make sure that ActiveSync is enabled. (Mine was disabled.) Then check settings of Sync and SyncExpress. I had to uncheck everything except mail in order to sync with outlook contacts etc. Contacts, appointments, tasks etc can also be synced with the Verizon Wireless website causing sync problems that I am still trying to sort through. Hope you have resolved your problems. |

Your process worked perfectly for me. Thank you!
USB hub connection:
Prior to getting the xv6700 I synchronized a Dell Axim x50v plugged into a powered USB 2 hub, using ActiveSync 3.8. Never any problems. Readme.doc that accompanies ActiveSync 4.1 I identifies an issue with USB hubs, so I plugged directly into my computer before synching the xv6700.
I did not try using the hub so I cannot say whether I would have a problem. If anyone has experience synching via a hub, please post. |

| I was getting an obscure error message from activesync the first time attempted to sync. The solution I came up with was using wireless sync to sync the first time, then uninstall the client and switch to active sync. everything has been working like a charm since then. |

I just bought my xv6700, my first phone/pda. After 2 wks and several hours on the phone with Verizon, active sync can not find my phone. Even when the wizzard says it's connected.
Audiovox and Verizon are now saying it's a microsoft problem, they are waiting for the patch and have no idea when it will be fixed.
I love the phone but am about to return it, as my 15 day return period is almost up.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled both 4.1 and 4.2 beta. Does 4.0 work?
How does the wireless sync work and are there charges for it?
Thanks |

The above solution worked for me. It was all about "Activesync not being enabled" on my 6700. Once I enabled it, all worked well. And yes, the sync is painfully slow, compared to the previous versions of Activesync and my old XV6600 pda. |

I've already checked that and enabled it. Same result. I've hear vpn clients can cause this also. I've uninstalled the vpn and going to try again later.
I'll let you know the results.
Thanks
It worked. I haven't reloaded the vpn, but activesync worked perfectly. So if your having problems and you have a vpn installed. That's the problem.
Good Luck |

Wow,
What a pain in the u know what.
I had similar sync issues but I resolved my issue by plugging the sync cable directly into my PC and bypassing the cradle. (Bad design if you ask me!)
I also had to disable my firewall then go back and do the following.
Open the following ports for all programs in the PC firewall:
- 990: open inbound TCP port
- 999: open inbound TCP port
- 5678: open inbound TCP port
- 5679: open outbound UDP port
- 5721: open inbound TCP port
- 26675: open inbound TCP port
I am also installed Activesync 4.2 after removing the previous version.
Make sure your Activesync program is also allowed by the firewall.
Everything seems to be working well now.
Good luck! |
