I wonder if anyone is using their EVDO connection as a backup to their regular internet connection? After reading the story below, it would be the perfect backup (although a bit expensive):

I would think a back-up service for a cable connection to be DSL and for DSL to be cable if not just due to the cost of EVDO when compared to these type of services. I can see only one reason to pay the high cost of EVDO as a backup and that would be during/after a hurricane where you could go a month at a time without service or if there are such bad winter storms that the lines always get damaged(which could hit both cable and DSL at the same time)... but those being so far and few between, the cost still may not justify.

I have EVDO as my primary connection, unless I am traveling and the hotel has a free High Speed connection (most do now and it will always blow away EVDO). My backup is a JOI dialup, the same one I had when I had a cable modem (Before the current job) and the one I used before EVDO when I relied only on hotel connections. Have not used JOI for over a year, but for $7 a month it is there just in case and doesn't hurt the wallet.

EVDO is my primary connection. I kept my dialup ISP because I wanted the backup and they include 300 megs of web space for 10 bucks a month. Every picture I have scattered on the net is hosted there.

I went from dialup to EVDO so this seems very fast to me. Smile
