|
|
I'm presently using a series of Motorola V262s as tethered modems to provide temporary Internet access at a number of remote locations. The computers on site don't have PC card slots so that wasn't an option.
Over the last 7-10 days, I've had a number of sites have problems with what I would call virus-like behavior. Essentially, after a few days of using the phone, the computers will begin to behave very strangely. Random program crashes, damage to executable files, etc. The problem can also spread over a LAN, though neither the Symantec or the McAfee antivirus products seem to note any issue.
The final result is a complete paralysis of the computer. That is to say that the modem can 'connect' to the Internet and even obtain an IP from the ISP, but that no higher level Internet content can be accessed. For example, I can successfully ping nearly any site on the Internet, but if I attempt to access those sites in IE or Firefox I'm unable to do so.
My thought is that some sort of malicious program is sneaking onto the computer through the phone somehow and generally wreaking havoc with our computer and I'm wondering if firewall software like the Windows firewall or one of the commercially available products would be helpful. I've tried enabling the Windows firewall (I'm used to disabling it because it interferes with our software and is a general bother to use.) and I have not had a recurrance at any locations where I've done so.
Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions that anyone has to offer would be welcome; this issue is killing me and is causing me to rapidly lose faith in EVDO. Help, please.
Some other information that may be useful: we're using Alltel's Axxcess broadband EVDO product at 36 locations throughout the Charlotte metro area. This issue has arisen at 34 locations in the last three weeks. After many long days with Alltel's tech support we've been unable to resolve the issue. |

Ummm. According to www.phonescoop.com the V262s isn't an EVDO phone just a 1xrtt phone. Part of the problem may be with the drivers that are governing the phone's modem abilities. Just a hunch here. _________________ EVDO Addict.

If you can ping any site but cannot access via a browser, that sounds like a DNS issue. Try replacing the supplied DNS address wth a known good one and I bet things will work fine. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |
