|
|
I just purchased the Peplink Balance 20 to replace my old Cradlepoint MBR1000. I am using a Verizon UML290 modem.
Where I live I only have 3G, no 4G yet.
I have the LATEST firmware on both devices (Peplink is Version 5.3.12 and the UML290 Version is 248)
I called the folks at 3gStore(nice folks by the way ) and their tech told me how to lock the modem in 3G only. I did lock it to 3G.
Well, it did not work. When I plugged the modem into the Peplink it says device found then connecting......But it will NOT connect!.
Right now I am using my old faithful Cradlepoint connected to the WAN port of the Peplink (modem connected to the Cradlepoint)
I need help, cause I don't want to have to return the Peplink, since the Load Balance feature is excellent.
Thanks!

I have a Balance 30 at my house and tried plugging in a UM290 (working) in it and saw the same thing you did. It was stuck on connecting.
I did pull the plug on the Balance WITH the UML290 inserted and it did correct detect and connect. So, give that a try and let us know if it works.
We have already reported the issue to Peplink and they are working with us to get additional UML290s for testing... _________________ EVDO :: 3G Routers :: 3G Antennas :: Verizon Data Cards :: Sprint Data Cards :: CloudCam |

I've tried that Mike, but it didn't work for me. I guess it worked for you because the 30 is built a little different than the 20.
I hope Peplink resolves the issue soon. I did send them email about the problem.
Again, thank you for trying to help. |

The 20 & 30 are identical except the 20 has 2 WAN ports and the 30 has 3.
Can you tell me what Firmware and Hardware version your UML290 is running
Stick in VZAccess Manager and look under the about for this info.
I just tried 2 different UML290s with different firmware and they did work.
Firmware Version: L0290VWAB43F.214
Hardware Version: REV_03
Firmware Version: L0290VWB333F.230
Hardware Version: REV_03
Give us a few days, we will be able to get this resolved for you... _________________ EVDO :: 3G Routers :: 3G Antennas :: Verizon Data Cards :: Sprint Data Cards :: CloudCam |

Thanks Michael. I am running the latest version of the firmware on the Peplink (Version 5.3.12) and on the UML290 Verizon Modem Version is 248) |

So firmware 214 & 230 works
and it appears you are having issues with firmware 248.
I will update a 3rd UML290 to 248 and see what happens.
BTW, already got an email from the techs at Peplink on this topic, so I do expect a solution.
Thanks for being patient. _________________ EVDO :: 3G Routers :: 3G Antennas :: Verizon Data Cards :: Sprint Data Cards :: CloudCam |

Yes Michael, I am in a 3G only area, and I've already locked the Modem to 3G as directed by the tech from the 3Gstore.
If you do update one of your UML290 modems, you will experience the same problem I am having.
Thanks,
Gil |

Quick question - Did you lock it in via VZAccess Manager or using the Pantech Utility Tool?
You must use the Pantech tool, not VZAccess Manager to get it to work in 3G mode. If you used this tool and things are still not working correctly please contact us directly so we can work with Peplink to make sure the issue is resolved ASAP for you. |

We have confirmed it works fine as long as you use the Pantech utility to lock it in to 3G mode. If you try and use VZAM to force it, it will NOT work because it will be eHRPD mode.
Please try again using the Pantech utility and let us know. If you are still having trouble, you can open a support ticket by visiting:

|
|
After locking the modem to 3G it connects, but it doesn't stay connected for long.
After it disconnects, the Peplink 20 will not re-detect the modem UNLESS you unplug the power from the router off and back on.
So now I am back using my old trusty Cradlepoint 1000 to connect with the UML290 and piggy back the 1000 to the WAN on the Peplink for the load balancing (I use my phone's hot spot with a bridge for WAN 2)
Hopefully it will get fixed with the next update from Peplink (or Verizon?)

I know we spoke earlier today in chat regarding this issue. If you've got the remote admin setup Peplink should be able to get into the interface regardless of a public/private IP.
However, if you've got a private IP it sounds like when you ran the Pantech Utility you didn't change eHRPD to HRPD. Could you verify the device is setup for HDR/HRPD through the Pantech utility? Also, how long do you maintain a connection before it drops? |
