In my rural location, 3G Verizon service is basically my only broadband option. And fortunately for me, I live close enough to my Verizon tower so I usually get 600 kbps down and close to that up.

Recently I have added the option of using using google gmail mail to make free long distance VOIP calls to any land line or cell phone in the US and Canada.

But free is a relative term, gmail offers me the option for nothing, but it takes off my Verizon 5 GB or 10 GB a month cap.

So my question becomes, can I get some information on how many Megabytes a one minute VOIP consumes off my cap?

Can anyone provide even a rough guide?

Thank you Micheal for your chart,

The two criteria best fitting is a Skype type call at 28 NB an hour and magic jack type calling at 56 MB an hour. Or in round numbers somewhere between 1/2 to 1 MB a minute.

So once again thanks again.
