PostPosted: Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:28 am    Post subject: Can't access the internet after MIFI 2200 firmware update

I just plugged my Verizon MiFi 2200 into my computer's USB port hoping to use VZAccess Manager to update the Verizon cell tower locations.

When I did this, it said updates were available, etc. I allowed the program to update (I think the firmware was updated). It went through several updates, the last one being the cell tower locations.

I've never used the MiFi tethered to my laptop for anything before. I always charge using an electrical outlet and use the MiFi as a "stane alon" hotspot or tether it to my Cradlepoint.

After reading posts here I decided to tether it to the laptop and see how that works. When I do that, I cannot access the internet at all, even from the laptop that it is tethered to.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Jean Painter Sad

Mifi won't work as a router and be connected by USB at the same time. It will only recharge or update. It should work if you go back to wall recharger, or battery power. If it won't it looks like the update may have "bricked" your Mifi.**M.S.***

It still works on battery, I just thought it was supposed to provide internet access to the single tethered computer.

The Novatel MiFi 2200 won't act as a router while USB tethered, but it will work as a modem via USB. This is, afterall, how one is able to use it as with the Cradlepoint.

The behavior quoted above is certainly true for the newer MiFi devices (4510L, SCH-llLC). in order to use one of those devices with a Cradlepoint you have to have one of the newer ones that has 'WiFi as Wan'.

I've been considering upgrading to a 4510L. I currently have a Cradlepoint MBR 1000 and have been told that the 4510L is not compatible with it and d I'll need to purchase one of the newer model Cradlepoints that has "WiFi as Wan". Could someone tell me how that works? Not a technical answer, just "you plug this into here and that into there and do this, etc."

Thanks for any insight into this.

Have you attempted a factory reset on the device?

Here is an article (non tech) that explains:

What is "WiFi as WAN" and How Can I Use it?
