Hi all,
I saw this at walmart for $80 and they have firmware updates for the UML290. Supposedly works for both 3g/4g.

Does anyone have any experience with this device? I didn't see it on the 3gstore as a product so was just wondering what folks thoughts were with it.

I just got this and it was a little difficult to get setup at first. The manual is on a CD so you actually have to read it........

Anyway it seems to be working fine now. I did have to use these setup options even though it is a 4G Pantech 290 modem.

APN: vzwinternet
Username: Yourmodemnumber@vzw3g.com, ie 5555555555@vzw3g.com
Password: vzw

The rest is blank. Now for some reason it took a couple of times to connect.

I just picked one of these up at Fry's for $60. It is not working. I can't get it to connect to the internet through my UML-290. I tried the setting above but no can do.

To say this thing is hard to set up is an understatemet! I don't have a CD ROM on my netbook so whatever is on there is useless to me. I thought this thing might be a good deal but it's turning out to be a useless piece of junk.

OK. I wanted to update this thread so anyone interested in the unit can get it working.

In my market (Southern California) the three boxes you have to put info in are:

Dialed number: *99***3#
Username: yournumber@vzw3g.com
password: vzw

All other boxed are left empty.

Works great! Well the download is around 10 Mbps and the best upload is about 2 Mbps. That is not what the modem runs at if plugged into my computer directly. I consistantly get 16 Mbps both up and down.

A fully charged battery lasts a little over an hour when using it on a continuous stream (i.e. Slingbox).

If you don't care about the battery power then save $20 and get the 4501 which has seperate WAN / LAN ethernet ports and allows for a 3G/4G connection as a backup. The 4506 has only one ethernet port that you can choose to either WAN or LAN.
