I've had nothing but issues with my original overdrive and am contemplating finally replacing it with an Overdrive Pro or a Mifi 3G/4G.

What is the current status of these two devices? Which one would be a better choice?

Can't speak about the Mifi. I replaced my original Overdrive with the Pro and have had nothing but troubles. The Pro seems to suffer the issues that the original had early on.

The most notable one that I have is 4G randomly drops off after 5 - 7 minutes. It tries to reconnect for a bit then gets a connection error 4. After that I have to remove the battery to get it back on 4G.

I am actually thinking about going back to my original Overdrive until they get this one sorted out. That one was mostly stable since the February update.

I also wanted to upgrade from my Overdrive to the Mifi or the ODP. Tried the Mifi - it only worked when you disabled security and it was very slow. NOT good. I now have the ODP - It does have an issue with UPnP that Sprint is aware of and is working to fix. I have also heard that there might be an issue with the memory card slot. I disabled both of those things and it works 99% of the time without issues.

I do not know if you use UPnP or the memory card slot, but if you do, try disabling them and see if your performance improves. If you do not, I would suggest trying taking it back for a new one.

In general, the performance of the ODP is much better than the old Overdrive and even with its few issues, is worth the switch to me.

Thanks for the information. It looks like I may be better off dealing with my regular Overdrive until things settle down.

Just thought I would post an update. My OD Pro had gotten so bad that I was getting the connection error (4) message when my 4G signal was 20% or less or with any signal when moving. Something the original could do without issue.

I called customer service again on Friday night and they instructed me to go to the store. I figured the store was going to have a good signal so I ended up taking pictures of the original overdrive with a signal and the newer one with the error side x side.

Thankfully, the pictures helped and an new one has been ordered for me. If it turns out my first one was just defective I will update. For now I am back on the original and things are working just fine.

If you are considering using either as an always on internet connection, reconsider. Both devices were designed to be stylish mobile connections and not workhorses. You would have much better performance with a Cradlepoint and USB connection card (preferably with an external antenna).

If you want either for mobile connectivity, I would go with the MiFi.

Unless you need the additional wireless range the Overdrive Pro offers, then I'd recommend going with the MiFi 4082.

Are you using this for home or on the go? If your looking for more of a home solution a more popular option is to buy a standard USB style modem then buy a dedicated 3G/4G router to share the connection.

I typically recommend the later for users that are looking for a home based solution. The MiFi/Overdrive are great devices on the go but lack the ability to create an extensive network at home like you can with a router.
