Doesn't say if it's Windows Mobile 5. If it's PPC 2003, I wouldn't consider it. Treo 700w will be WM5. 64MB internal memory is also not impressive for PPC/WM.
| Quote: | | Grabbed some hands-on time with Samsung’s i830 smartphone—and had trouble putting it down. It’s a quad-band Windows Mobile unit outfitted with EVDO. It has 64MB internal memory / 128MB Flash and an expansion slot. The screen is 2.8-inches and 65K color TFT, touch-sensitive too. Slide the 5.2-inch top vertically to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard. The keys are a bit smaller, I think, than the ones on the Treo 700w. The i830 is a bit thinner (.6-inches) and the same weight (6.4 ounces) as the Treo 650, but it lacks a camera (!!) and has a slightly lesser screen at 240 x 320 pixels. But if I was considering buying a Treo 700w, I would take a serious look at the i830 first. It’s available January 12, pricing TBA |

| Just to rain on your parade: yes, it is WM2003SE. BTW, form factor aside, most HTC devices will kill a Treo 700w. |

| Quote: | Verizon Wireless and Samsung Introduce Ultimate Global Productivity Wireless Device
SCH-i830 Provides Global Roaming Capabilities, Windows Mobile(TM) Applications and EV-DO Data Speeds
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung) today introduced its SCH-i830, the ultimate tool for the global business traveler, which will be available for Verizon Wireless' large account enterprise customers on January 10, 2006, and for consumers on January 24, 2006. As the latest smart phone collaboration between Verizon Wireless and Samsung, the i830 is much more than a wireless phone -- it's similar to a personal computer with a full QWERTY keyboard and access to email and documents, and also comes equipped with quad-band frequency that will work internationally where networks are supported.
The i830 is exclusive to Verizon Wireless and allows international travelers to keep one phone and one phone number almost anywhere they go, via its dual mode, CDMA/GSM functionality. The multifunction device fills the need for a single high-end wireless phone that can be used globally without sacrificing voice capabilities, while delivering ease-of-use and convenience through its design and its ability to handle data and messaging tasks.
The i830 is designed for business travelers who want to stay productive while on the road. Equipped with VZEmail including Wireless Sync as well as Windows Mobile(TM) and Pocket PC applications, this wireless workhorse allows consumers to check and respond to email, develop, review and edit most document file types.
The full QWERTY keyboard, revealed by sliding the phone's screen, makes developing and maintaining critical documents a breeze. Additionally, Picsel Browser allows consumers to view full versions of PDFs, images and PowerPoint® files at any time.
"The i830 builds on Samsung's tradition of developing high-quality converged devices that allow busy consumers to remain connected and productive no matter where they travel. With a compact form factor, abundance of familiar Windows Mobile features and the power of Verizon Wireless's high- speed EV-DO network, the i830 is the ultimate productivity device on the market," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president, Samsung.
The device's Bluetooth® wireless technology, which supports certain profiles, as well as its built-in speakerphone, gives consumers the flexibility of hands-free communication. Additionally, the i830 features an SD I/O expansion slot for increasing the phone's memory, as well as stereo speakers for improved sound quality when viewing videos or listening to MP3 files via Windows Media® Player v10.
The i830 will be available to enterprise customers through Verizon Wireless business sales on January 10 and will be available for order in the 1,900 Verizon Wireless stores across the country for $599.99 with a two-year customer agreement on January 24. |

| I wonder if Verizon will allow USB tethering with this one. I suspect the new BlackBerry is allowed to do tethering because it's exclusively sold through the Business channel. If this is available to consumers, I wonder if tethering will be allowed. |

Huh? The Blackberry 7130e is available in all channels and allows USB tethering (Windows only).
I was kind of hoping that the 7130e, and allowing laptop tethering was a new direction for Verizon. They didn't announce if Verizon supports tethering for the i830, lets wait and see when it is official to see if that is supported. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| The i830 is pretty specialized. How many people really need a CDMA phone for North America and a GSM phone for Europe etc., all in one handset? I'd rather have the i730, with WiFi instead of GSM. Actually, I'd rather have the Sprint PPC 6700, which I just bought. |
