I'd bought a brand new Inspiron 6000 - built and shipped the day before Christmas 2005. After reading the reports of problems with the Inspiron 6000 and most EVDO cards, I was definitely leery. But. . .I also read that some people had some successes with newer rev logic boards. So after talking to Mike at booster-antenna, I figured I'd give a 5740 a go - understanding that it was probably a 50/50 proposition.
Well. . .5740 card arrived (right as promised, BTW) - and it worked fine. No lockups or freezes. From home, ran four speed tests at DSL Reports -
Speeds - DOWN/UP
1 - 335/22
2 - 110/88
3 - 187/14
4 - 187/14
Most of the time, it seemed to hover right between Broadband Access and National Access.
I live in the far north suburbs of Chicago and the measurements above were taken from inside my townhouse. I take the train from Waukegan to downtown Chicago every day - I'll report on what I find during the trip in the Verizon section.
On another note, I must say I couldn't be happier buying from Booster-Antenna. I phoned and Mike was a tremendous help and extremely knowledgeable about all the EVDO options - and willing to admit what he didn't know first hand. It's always nice to buy from someone who knows what they're doing - AND - goes out of their way to help. So far, an outstanding experience!!!!

Mike,
Thanks for your comments and glad it is working.
So, how was coverage on the train? Instead of replying here, start a new thread in the Verizon Coverage area (just call it Metra line xx Verizon Coverage). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |
