Venturi has finished building Venturi Compression for Mac OS X and they are giving it away to anyone that asks. At some point soon, it will probably be part of the regular Verizon installers.

Download for 10.4.x

http://venturi.he.net/~venturi/3_3_1_Mac_Client/mac_client331.dmg

Release Information:

http://venturi.he.net/~venturi/3_3_1_Mac_Client/VWRN_3.3.1_MACClient.pdf

Setup Instructions:

http://www.venturiwireless.com/tech_support/mac_helpguide/

Also, the normal default server is expressnet.myvzw.com, but Venturi is asking those testing this software to use the IP Address of 66.174.93.102 until the end of January 2006.

The installation is easy, but you have to go in an manually configure Safari/FireFox/NetScape to use a local proxy in order to get this to work. Additional information how to do this in the setup directions.

For those that download, please be sure to post your results here. We are going to be busy this week getting ready for MacWorld next week.

I really hope that the final initial setup it a lot more streamlined.

Also, for those new to Venturi Compression, there is a wealth of information up here and on EVDOinfo.com (see Venturi), so research first before installing this.

FYI, if you are NOT on Verizon's BroadbandBand or NationalAccess, the Venturi software for the mac will install, BUT it will not function. So, it checks to make sure you are actually on a Verizon network and if not, automatically disables itself.

When it is installed, and you are Airport or Ethernet, it seems to do some strange things the first time you use it (telling you a server is not available - when it is).

Not very friendly Sad

There is no need for venturi when you are on the broadband network. I personally would not use it because of errors like the one you got. Just remove it and you should browse fine.
