It looks like the Pantech UML290 Fix Application is no longer needed - CradlePoint has that functionality built-in to the 1.8.1 Firmware (bravo!).

NOTE: if you previously performed the Pantech fix to lock your modem to 3G and have since upgraded to 1.8.1, see Tip of the Week #73 to set your modem back to auto-mode.

MBR1000 was updated to firmware 1.8.1 without issue. Router was updated manually.

UML290 has latest firmware. Did not experience issue with 1.8.0.

Location is Irvine, California.

We received 1.8.1 firmware earlier today to test and one of our techs in Chicago who had NOTHING BUT problems, was able to connect his CradlePoint MBR1000 with his Pantech UML290 and connect without issue on 3G or 4G. He had constant problems before 1.8.1.

Looking forward to hear how it goes for everyone else.

Failure.
UML290 v 2.16
CTR500

Initially 1.81 worked, but then was disconnected every two minutes. Now it will not connect to internet.

It looks like 1.81 resets modem to global. I am in 3G only area right now and like the convenience of locking to HDR only. Did not see a way to do this with 1.81.

Modem diagnostics also showed 1xRtt although when CTR500 & UM290 was briefly working I was in 3G speed.

As Michael mentioned above, you can now force 3G or 4G from the Modem->settings page in the UI.

If you previously forced the mode using the Pantech utility, you should use it again to put the modem back into global mode to get it back to a known state before putting it into the CP router and trying to force it.

Newbie here...

I upgraded to1.8 then 1.8.1 on MBR-1000 with Pantech UML290 set to '3G' mode as I am in a 3G area only.

Keeps dropping the connection.

I realize now after reading this, that it was working better on the beta.

If I reset the modem to be 'dual mode' 4G/3G then use the router software to force 3G, might I see better results?

Is there a way to 'go back' to the older firmware version?

Final question--the wifi capability of the MBR-1000 is terrible. I can't get a signal from my home office to the living room not 25 feet away. I have my old router plugged into the new one and am running two networks because the cradlepoint is unusable. Anyone have similar problems?

Thanks.

Yes, when you set the router to either 3G or 4G it's automatically changing the configuration of the card directly. You need to reset to standard settings with the Pantech Tool then do everything through the router directly.

Can you tell me what the 'default' settings should be?

I assume 'automatic' for Pre_mode but what do I set HDR Service Configuration too?

Again I am in an area with ONLY 3G.

thanks

Within the Pantech Utility tool click read the use the following default settings - Select the "CDMA/HDR/LTE only" and "eHRPD" options instead and you'll be ready to go with 1.8.1 CP firmware.

If you previously used the Pantech Modem Utility to force a specific mode, then use it again to select AUTOMATIC and eHRPD.

If you prevuiously used the VZAccess Manager to force a specific mode, then use it again to select GLOBAL mode.

Any forcing you need to do, do it inside the Cradlepoint after that (Modem > Settings - select the appropriate modem interface, then scroll to the bottom LTE modem settings).

OK, finally success.

UML290
CTR500
1.81
I followed CPEmployee_DW instructions. Trick is to select UML290 in "modem interface". It says "express card" but if you click it the UML290 selection comes up. Then select 3G only.

Thanks.
