Why is it that Sprint cannot give me these codes for the new cards?

I called them but cannot get the darn lock code so I can setup my datalink services.

Sprint normally doesn't give out the service codes including the MSL code (unlock code). Customers in the past have been known to make their phones into effect "paperweights" (meaning DEAD ON ARRIVAL). Because of inexperience when using the codes end up jacking or messing up the phone's programming. Get the reasoning now?

Yeah, it's pretty dangerous to have the MSL code even if technically competent. I nearly destroyed my Treo 650 by tinkering with some obscure settings. It's possible to 'trick' Sprint into giving the MSL code to you on phones but it might be harder to do with data cards. You'd have to simulate a problem you're having that would justify them giving you the code. If you are a large Business customer and have a rep who knows you well, you might be able to get the codes. There are hack sites out there too but I've only seen for phones, not data cards.

In any of these dialogs is there any way to lock a S620 out of 1XRTT? I am closer to the 1xRTT tower than I am to the nearest EVDO tower and my card keeps bouncing back and forth between the two. Very annoying. I have to let the connection go dormant or disconnect, wait till it goes back to EVDO and reconnect.

I've also been wondering this. The bouncing back and forth sucks and I wish I could just lock in one of the signals.

Last night I downloaded two Sprint Connection Manager updates. Now in the Sierra Wireless General Settings area there is a box where you can select EVDO only, 1RxTT only, or automatic.

I'm running a 580 card so the software may be different. Run an update and check it out!

I would love to have that option but none of the versions (including the latest, 3.01.007) have ever included that as a setting that we can find for the Novatel card. It might be hidden somwhere. We have so far been unable to locate it.

Thanks for the info on 580 card though. I am sure that will be helpful to many others.

Thanks,
Bryan

I don't have the 580 card anymore but it is interesting that the options are very different than S620. On the S620, you can set the card to be a Windows NDIS interface, meaning it is 'always on'. Can't do that on 580.

As far as hacking the ##DATA info, I don't see anything that would force only DO or 1xRTT.

the only reasoning I see is that my police cars don't function because I cannot enter my HA address and keys. This means that Sprint holds things up for me. I have to wait days or weeks for the sprint Bimteam to make a custom connection manager for me. I setup my airlink custom trunk mount cards on a daily basis....pretty sure I know what I'm doing.

To get the MSL code, call Tier 2 data support and tell them you need to activate your card, that it is having problems. They have to give you the MSL code to activate.

It's under Menu>Settings>Sprint Vision>Activation Wizard

If rep doesn't head down that path, call another and try again.

I have Merlin s620 with firmware v. 171. When I input A-key I receive next error message:
A-Key change failed.
Possible causes:
- Checksum error
- Device write failure
A-Key is absolutely correct. I get it from a-key calculator.

What is wrong?
