Hi cstroup Smile
When you get your service would be real interested if you could post some download speeds.

Ok, had my Alltel service for a little over a week now. With the holidays I have used it extensively for web surfing and VPN to the office.

I have not been able to see a speed above 150 K. I have 2 bars of service in/at my home. As I was driving I was within eyesight of a tower with full signal and did another speed test with NO difference. ???? I am disappointed with the speed, but it is better than the other alternative at my house which is dial up.

I have the Kyocera card.

Any ideas to improve speed, laptop config etc. ?

I plan to call Alltel tomorrow and inquire about such slow speeds. They advertise 400-700 K as a norm.

Regards,

Oh, I can add one more thing.

I have not had any problems with the service dropping me. I drove into work with the service running (about 20 miles) and it ran like a champ.

Once I work out the speed issue, LOVE IT.

Make the speed mods shown in these forums to optimize your laptop first. If speed continues to be a problem, open a trouble ticket at (877)397-9273. That's a hotline to a data-specific tech support group, so you won't have to wade through all the less knowledgeable customer service folks.

If there is a "network" problem, don't expect an immediate fix, but be prepared to give exact street locations where your service is slow. Do the tests outside so the building is not a factor. If you are in a vehicle, the antenna must be above the level of the windows. If they have enough information, they will schedule technicians to drive-test that area.
