OK: Verizon with Powerbook G4 and K650

I have been successful (with one exception) setting up my G4 powerbook with the Verizon K650 card. The VZ access manager works okay, but with one problem.

If the computer goes to sleep with an active connection, the computer completely freezes up and needs a full power-off and on. The white sleep light does not activate. Any suggestions? If there is no active connection, this does not occur, and sleep state occurs normally.

Speeds here in Chicagoland are fine. Overall we are very happy with the new service, and awaiting more cities to be added to the Broadband list.

Anyone know if Buffalo, NY (where my spouse conducts lots of business) is on the list?
