I have the Novatel USB 727 modem which I use with a CTR350 router. More and more often I am being disconnected---the USB light goes out, indicating that the modem is not communicating with the router, right? I am a little over 2 miles from the tower but do not have clear line of sight because of trees and a small hill. My signal strength is pretty good, varying from 65-75% and -74 to -78dBm. I thought the problem might be the router, so I installed the Verizon software on my computer and plugged the modem in directly. I was connected a little over 3 minutes and lost the connection.

Is the modem going bad or is there some other cause for the problem? I notice that things slow down in the evenings, so I guess usage on that tower is rather high, even though this is a rural location.

Would appreciate any ideas for a solution. This setup has worked well for over a year. I am not in a contract with VZ.

Can't figure it out, but today I haven't lost my connection at all and pages have loaded fairly fast.

I'm wondering if there was a problem at the tower which has now been addressed. Just hope good connection holds. (All my fingers are crossed

Yes, I just did that shortly before posting. So I don't think that is the cause of the disconnects.

Today has been better---only one disconnect. I wish the modem were smaller because I'm wondering if its weight, sticking out the side of the router , is causing a problem. It seems to be inserted solidly, but .....

Try using a USB cord between the modem and the router. Sometimes getting it away from the router helps.

I'll give that a try and see if it helps.

Unfortunately, connecting the modem via a USB extension cord did not help the situation. As soon as I try to open a browser, the USB light on the CTR350 goes out. Sometimes it will come back on and then in about 15 seconds it's off again. By moving the modem around I had a good strong connection, even better than before.

I have finally resorted to using the modem in a USB port on my computer, but I do not get the best connection. At least it doesn't keep going out on me. Now I'm beginning to think this is a problem with the router, and maybe I should have posted elsewhere.

Of course, now I have no wireless connection for my laptop using the modem this way.

Oops, just lost my connection again, so maybe an overloaded tower or something of that sort??

Well, it seems I absolutely cannot keep a connection going with the Cradlepoint router. The USB light will go on momentarily, but the instant I attempt to access the internet, it goes off and no connection. So I'm back to using the modem in a USB port on my desktop computer.
