Marginal EVDO, Switching EVDO 1xRTT, Battery Suffers

Do you have a EVDO phone that is constantly switching between EVDO and 1XRTT?

You may be in a marginal EVDO area? This can be on the outer fringe, OR directly in the middle of a NationalAccess (1xRTT) and BroadbandAccess (EVDO) areas:

If you do, battery life will suffer because the phone will frequently attempt to acquire the EVDO signal then drop back to 1xRTT, using plenty of power in the process - this is an issue with all EVDO phones.

The only way around this is to boost signal with a:

- booster antenna
- signal amplifier
- wireless repeater (new devices, may not be available yet, more on this later)

The signal boosting options, may take away from the portability of the phone (e.g. something plugged in, may not be an attractive option for you).

Option #2

Carry an extra battery with you.
