Which PC card is better Audivox 5220 or Novatel 620?

I currently have the 5220 but I am hearing that the Novatel 620 is better and it can get 500k and above. Is this true?

I've had both and find the 620 to be a more advanced card than the 5220.

The software for the 620 included text messaging and Quick 2 Net ( an alternative way to access the net), it will also convert your dial up connection to wireless! I actually used this to see if it would work and it does but I don't know is any additional charges apply.

The 5220 has a flap antenna and the 620 antenna is internal which is a major consideration is your PC card slot is near your keyboard as mine is.

In actual use, the V620 is much faster than my 5220 was. That disparity may, in part, have been the fact the V620 set my computer's RWIN value to 62480 while the 5220 was running at XP's stock setting of 17500.

I've since learned to set RWIN myself but I never set it on the 5220 for a completely fair comparison.

The internal antenna and improved software are reason enough to upgrade in my view.

Having said that, Rev A is coming and new cards are coming. You might give it a few more months before spending any more money.

Have you adjusted your RWIN value on your 5220? Search this board for posts on changing it if you aren't familiar with the procedure.

Is there anyway to get Verizon to swap out my 5220 for a v620?
I had this card for only 1 month. I tried calling them and their customer support sucks.

According to the contract you are out of the trial period; but you could always go to your authorized dealer and try. You might try to claim it was crashing your machine and the tech support people just figured it out, they might let you swap out then.

If you only signed up for a year it won't be too bad... I only did a year because I knew technology was going to be changing so fast on these that within 6 months something better would be out.

I have been testing/playing with a Sierra AirCard 580, and the Sierra software (new MCM) is very nice. Supports SMS too. I will be posting more on this at EVDOinfo.com.

The AirCard 580 is available from both Verizon and Sprint.
