I am reading the spec of the HTC Evo 4G and wondering how long the 1500mAh Lithium battery will last while in heavy use.

This phone sounds like the coolest Android phone yet.

Hopefully, others will come out with extended batteries for the HTC Evo 4G, so it can run all day long. That is my main complaint with the iPhone - the battery time sucks.

This thread will discuss the Sprint EVO 4G and how long the standard battery lasts. Included in this discussion will be optimization tips to get battery life from your HTC EVO 4G. Once the EVO 4G is released, it will be intersting to see how having the Mobile Hotspot option enabled impacts battery life.

Look for more on this topic after the EVO 4G ships on 6/4/2010.

I'm sure Seidio will come to the rescue with one of their extended batteries and replacement back plates, maybe at the expense of that cool kick stand.

If it lasts a day with moderate use, that will be enough for me.

I'm concerned about this as well. I've read and heard about people needing to turn off 3G on the HTC Incredible so that it doesn't spend energy boosting the signal in weak signal areas. So I wonder if this will also be the case with the EVO, particularly when running at 4G speed. My friend is having a similar experience as Michael with her iPhone: battery drains around mid-day/afternoon after an overnight charge to full.

I'm with somnambulus: a day's usage will work for me. I'd hate to have to spend a ton of money on other batteries...are they expensive?

Here are some interesting comparisons with the standard battery on different devices:

AT&T Apple iPhone 3GS 1200 mAH
Verizon HTC Incredible 1300 mAH
T-Mobile HD2 1230 mAH
Sprint HTC EVO 4G 1500 mAH

I looked at some of the Seidio batteries that orbitalcomp mentioned, and they have 1750 mAH batteries for the Incredible that don't require a new backplate and boost usage time well enough. Only $50ish. Hopefully there'll be a similar battery for the EVO that gives the same boost (1900 mAH).

It's been confirmed that Evo uses the same battery as Sprint Hero, so there are already aftermarket extended batteries available. This has been confirmed by someone who actually replaced one with a Hero battery.

Seido has a 1750mah battery in same format for Hero too, so yeah, no need for extended cover.

Doesn't the the Hero use a 1350mAH battery? The EVO uses a 1500mAH one, so the capacity doesn't seem to be the same. Is it that the casing is similar?

In any event, a 250mAH boost isn't as nice as a 400mAH one. Sad

I have a TP2 now and it used the 1500 mAh battery. I also bought a generic one but it's only 1400. I had a Sprint tech support guy on the phone today and he was telling me my generic one won't fit in the evo that the size is different. But I don't get it it fits in my TP2 just like the 1500 but I'm not gonna chance it. I'll use my original 1500 TP2 battery for the EVO and have an extra. I'll sell my phone with the generica one for a little cheaper.. But a 1900 or so without it being extended and big would be nice.

I really don't mind just swapping the battery. My Evo shuts off if I remove the battery while it's plugged into USB, so I do have to shut off the phone in order to do this. If you disbale the sound before shutting down, it does not play the super-lame start-up music.

Michael,

Any way you can give us some info on the battery life. I think it is incredibly important to a lot of us.

From my personal use, you can expect 6 to 8 hours of battery life depending on which features of the phone you are using.

If you have WiFi or the Mobile hotspot feature enabled & are using the phone throughout the day, you can expect about an average of 6 hours of battery life.

Wow. Unfortunately that is a deal killer for me. My Hero needs a lot of help, but I can easily get 16 hours on a charge without curbing usage. Sad

Torrey has been using an Android phone for some time now and he is writing a cool article on "Battery Saving Tips and Tricks for EVO 4G" users.

Tip #1: Disable 4G since Sprint doesn't have it in your area. LoL
